UIUC is sort of my dream school, because I live in IL and this is the school that all the "smart kids" want to go to... including me. Furthermore, the instate tuition is pretty low, and that is an important factor for my parents and me. Anyway, I have some questions about getting in with my current grades and such, but I won't bother you guys with that now. (If someone is familiar with admissions to UofI, please PM me or IM me). So anyway, how easy is it to switch majors from LAS to something else? Say if I apply under LAS, how easy would it be to switch to Biology or something? I'm a junior in high school, and currently go to Neuqua Valley High school in IL, so my class rank isn't very high (the school is full of smart people, and my grades suck).

I dunno, its good to see that I can talk to people from UofI here. heh.

Switching majors within the same college is generally pretty easy. Some majors may require that you take certain classes and if you do well in those classes, then you can easily switch. Since biology is under the LAS college, you shouldn't have too much trouble applying to a different LAS major and then switching your major to biology later on.

It's more difficult to switch into majors that are in another college though. For example, if you start out with an LAS major, and want to switch to a business major, you have to do well in intro level business classes and then apply to transfer into the college of business.

BTW How bad of grades are we talking? I mean there are people with 3.8s at our school who complain about how their grades are so bad and that their rank isn't high enough. (I'd kill to be in their position, lol)

There are a lot of things working for u averagedesi:
1. Getting into LAS is a piece of cake! We engineers and fellow business majors sometimes look at certain LAS majors(especially a lot of hot girls) and just wonder how the hell did they get in???
2. Switching majors within LAS is a piece of cake
3. Switching majors outside LAS isnt that hard either provided u get a decently solid GPA your freshmen and soph year

^Yeah, I hate the "omg I have a 4.1 whatamigonnado!?!?!?!?" Trust me, my GPA is MUCH worse than that. A lot worse than yours too, even. I'd kill to be in your position.
