Whole Year Abroad

Hi Everyone,

I'm just finishing up my first quarter as a neuroscience major at OSU with a 3.8, and I've planned to go abroad the entirety of my junior year for a study abroad in Madrid. I'm doubling up on sciences and taking full courseloads up until then and after then so I can graduate in four years.

Here's my question; if I take no science at all my junior year is that going to look really bad for med school? Is going abroad for a whole year going to effect me adversely? I'm not planning on taking the MCATs before I graduate and I want to take time off after college and apply to either the Peace Corps or Teach for America and then medical school, so I'm not particularly worried about that.

Thanks so much!

I don’t think adcomms will have any issue with your schedule.

The only reason I have ever heard to not go abroad if you’re pre-med is the issue of fitting all your requirements in on time. Especially if you’re not planning on taking the MCAT until after you graduate and can thus take stuff you need for school senior year, it shouldn’t be too hard to get it all done, so I don’t think it would be a problem at all.
