Whoooaaa

So today I received an email from Duke saying "We are excited to see you have started the Common Application and selected us as one of the universities to receive your application." I did not realize that Common App TELLS schools if you add them...(luckily Duke is in my top 3 and has been there from the start) But are we ever notified of this fact? Because I feel like that's something I would have remembered/taken into consideration when I was making my schools list; Instead I've been fiddling around with it for a couple months and only a handful of schools have stuck around the whole time.

Has anyone else heard of this? Am I just really uninformed?

You checked off a box when you created a Common Application account.

You choose to opt-in or opt-out of receiving messages from colleges on your My College list when you register for an account. The details of this choice are explained in the Privacy Policy, which can be accessed from any page within your account by clicking the link at the bottom of the page. You can always change your mind by clicking the “Update Account” link from within any page of your account.

Opting in or out is your choice, but if colleges do not know that you are considering applying to them, then they will not be able to send you reminders of upcoming deadlines or programming that may be relevant to your interests.
