Hey all i just got my letter from Smith and i want to know who else has!!! So whose accepted?

An acceptance letter?

"who's accepted," not "whose accepted."

geeze...was it just an acceptance letter, or did you also get a scholarship? When you get a scholarship, you sometimes get your letter earlier.

cac119 - do you live in MA?

wowww seriously?! they just emailed me to tell me that results would be posted online March 23rd... I'm SO NERVOUS!

senior-i live in CT.. thedad - sorry about the gramatical mistake, i was rather excited
I got offered membership into the STRIDE program, which is probably why i got notified early (i tried to check on line and it still doesnt say im accepted yet).
good luck to everyone!

Congratulations CAC119...What area do you wish to do research in?

Thanks! i'm really not sure yet, but probably some form of Biology

My D is also a STRIDE student finishing her first year. Her research has something to do with e-coli and its potential positive uses in the human body. It's more specific than that, but that's all I can remember right now. I'm having a senior moment.

Are STRIDE students always applicants who have indicated interest in science and scientific research?

No...STRIDE's can be in any subject or area of interest. There are only about 30-35 STRIDES each year.

Thanks. I wondered because people mentioning them on this forum always mention science.

Do you have any idea what is prioritized in the selection process?

I really don't, but if I'm guessing, I'd say that students selected have greater academic success in high school, and exhibit, through their applications, the ability to perform at very high levels in academia. Typically, these are students that the college does not want to lose to Ivies and other elite LAC's.

Bingo. The Zollman is an "Ivy buster." STRIDEs go to students who may be considering Ivies but more likely other top but not very top choices, both LAC and research U's.

One of the nice things about a STRIDE (or a Zollman) is that Smith really wants you. It's not quite wined-and-dined like corporate recruiting but gives a warm fuzzy feeling just the same. (At least nobody ever offered me wine.)

"Thanks. I wondered because people mentioning them on this forum always mention science."

My d's STRIDE was in musicology, with a Five-College Prof. based out of Mount Holyoke who specializes in early music.

Today I recieved a letter from this STRIDE program, as well. Needless to say, I was very excited because it sounded like such a great opportunity.

For anyone on this thread who knows, I was just wondering if I need to have chosen a major or know my main focus of study to participate in this program. And, if so, how in depth should my knowledge be on the subject before I arrive?

thanks!

I also found out I was accepted. A Zollman too!!
I'm very excited and, yeah, it is cool to know that Smith wants me, but I'm trying to wait for all my acceptances before I try to make a decision.

Have any west coasters gotten a scholarship notification yet? I'm a Californian, so I want to know how much I should get my hopes up...

EB, many Smithies don't declare a major until sophomore year. Fwiw, my D's STRIDE project was in Computer Science though her majors wound up being Government and Math.

STRIDE is a terrific opportunity.

Just wondering if anyone received a phone call with an offer of admission?
