<p>I'm a finalist. All 4 people at my school who were semi-finalists advanced to finalist. I think you really have to screw up to not become one. Now if only I could find out if I get the $ or not...</p>
<p>Eek, I haven't gotten a letter yet. I'm a little tense because my GC (well, not him so much as those in charge of transcripts) had difficulty even finishing my application...they waited until the last minute (whereas I immediately filled out all my info as soon as I got the app in my hands!). So I'm hoping to be notified tomorrow..or at the very least, Thursday.</p>
<p>My GPA and extra-currics are good, and my SAT corroborated my PSAT index (my SAT was actually better), so...unless my school screwed up majorly and didn't send my application in, I should get Finalist standing. <em>knocks on wood</em> I just wish there were a quick and easy way to check these things myself.</p>
<p>^ maccas, I know the feeling! I was pretty sure I'd get Finalist, but I couldn't stop thinking about the SAT report getting lost in the mail, GC forgetting something, etc. </p>
<p>However, from what I saw everyone takes this seriously, as it's a big deal to the school. I'm sure you'll get it! good luck!</p>
<p>I wouldnt worry too much about something not getting turned into NM. We called them and they assured us that if something wasn't submitted on time, they would follow up on their end. I am sure you will have good news this week.</p>
<p>thanks guys -- turns out my GC had the letter all along but assumed I already knew that I had advanced to Finalist standing. (Apparently he didn't check the flow chart of dates...lol). :)</p>

<p>sounds like everyone has found out about their finalist standing. i still haven't heard anything from my school or in the mail...i hope that's not a bad sign. i wish the mail would hurry up!!!</p>
<p>I got it too. We did have one person from our school (we had around 8 semifinalists) not make finalist though. It was kind of...awkward</p>
<p>I made National Merit Finalist. All the people in my school who made semi-finalists made finalists.</p>
<p>I read somewhere that unless you have a salient reason (i.e. criminal record) then you should advance to Finalist. How many finalists, better yet, semi-finalists would you expect at my school of 1100 students (270 in my class)? I snobbishly/sheepishly say that I'm the lone NMSF. Larger schools in my area have disproportionately higher number of semi-finalists. How much do you guys think one could attribute to the curriculum that the school offers vs. the demographics?</p>
<p>Here's a good idea of my school's academics: a week before the PSAT, they send out permission slips to the "top" juniors to take the test. Such lack of forward-thinking could be the main culprit. Fortunately, I knew about it in advance and studied for it half-heartedly for a few months and got my 216. </p>

<p>My son hasn't mentioned or heard yet--could be he was absent when they were notifying folks, since he was out sick both Monday & today (Wednesday). Hopefully, they'll let him know tomorrow, Thursday. I hope he mentions it to me then (don't want to ask & make him anxious). His grades & ECs were up this year over the past years, so I think he should have made it & his counselors thought he should too.</p>

<p>My son hasn't heard either. I called his GC who told me the school hasn't heard anything. There are 2 semifinalists at his school including him.</p>
<p>Attn: homeschoolers: called the NMSQT office today (Thurs.2/9) to ask when my dd's notification would come, as the notifications were supposed to have been mailed out Fri. 2/3 to the principals (per NMSQT).</p>
<p>Was told that homeschoolers were not mailed until yesterday (Wed. 2/8). Typically they would be mailed to the home address. As principal, I was able to find that dd was indeed a finalist.</p>
<p>We live in FL, and her PSAT score was 222, if that helps. </p>

<p>wait, if it was mailed to the schoolo on the 3rd, when do we get something at home? I was under the impression that it was mailed to our houses on the 3rd, which is why I was wondering why I havn't gotten anything yet.</p>
<p>Well, I'm a tad anxious and I called them. They wouldn't tell me on the phone but was mailed to schools on the 3rd and to homes on the 8th. My son's school still says they don't know. Curious.</p>

<p>my GC called my dad, and he told me. 3 out of the 4 semifinalists in my school made it, but the kid who didn't never tries in school, so we kind of saw that coming. My GC was so excited because there's never been more than one finalist at our school. I guess '06 is just special.</p>
