Who's applying ED- class of 2016?

What is SCEA?

Yep! I’m gonna definitely go for Princeton SCEA!!
(so ironic that my ID is yaleholic, btw)

trishk, although you could google it, SCEA is Single-Choice Early Action. It’s a restrictive (i.e. you can only apply to one school with this program) but non-binding (i.e. you are not obliged to matriculate if you are admitted; you have until the RD decision date to respond to the offer of admission) early application program, offered by some schools wishing to allow for more flexibility than Early Decision programs (which are binding) permit. (Applicants accepted under EA programs are not committed and have more time to compare financial aid packages and decide on school-fit). Yale and Stanford have had such programs for years, and after a couple of years of single-deadline admissions cycles, Harvard and Princeton are re-introducing SCEA for applications to the Class of 2016 as well. (UChicago has a non-restrictive Early Action program).
The deadline for applications under SCEA is usually around November 1st, and schools respond by mid-December. Admits must reply by May 1st.

Absolutely. I love Princeton and think that the undergraduate education that could be experienced there is unparalleled. Curious though: I am not going to go on a whole Stats rant, but taking into account the fact that I am a very good student with very similar credentials, will being from Montana impact my chances at all?

im in a desperate state
^please reply here and help me please!!! thankss :)

hi! is it ok for me to substitute my SAT subject tests with my IB predicted grades? p.s, the IB is harder…plz lemme know, guys! thanks!

Early Action to Harvard: Just about every hook: 1st gen, Nigerian/American (African/American for anyone who doesn’t know), English isn’t my first language (actually it isn’t even the predominant language spoken at home), I speak 3 languages (English, Yoruba, Chinese), single parent (of 4), low income.

I’ve been to China on a scholarship, scored a 31 on the first ACT (fixing it), National Merit Black Scholar, building a particle accelerator for sci fair (I’M A SCIENCE FREAK).

WEAKNESS: LOOOOOOOOOOOOWW Grades (4 C’s and an F), though 10 AP classes (plus 3 self studying, Chinese, Calc BC, and Physics C). Rest Honors. 3.5 unweighted, 4.55 weighted, top 6%, (class of 1000 though, so woooot).

readyforit: Two of my roommates at Princeton were Jewish white boys from the East Coast. So… there is hope.

portia0105: Your argument is only valid if it is true that UChicago, MIT, and Caltech give a sizable boost to EA applicants. Do you have evidence that this is how things actually work?

cmorris2325: If every applicant from Montana is sub-par, but you’re the best of them, then it will help you.

shivanisuresh: No, you may not send in your predicted IB grades in lieu of SAT IIs.

Oluwamide: How in the world are you in the top 6% of your class if you’ve gotten four C’s and an F?

ray121988: I’m definitely anxious about admissions, but I don’t think I am just the best applicant from a sample of subpar applicants. I’m sure there are other strong applicants as well. I just know that Princeton as a first choice is not on a lot of peoples’ minds in Montana. Most gravitate toward Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, and Brown.

Hey guys, is Nepali URM? I just noticed that Princeton did not take any Nepali students for the class of 2015. Well, I do have good/average stats and I would just like to know how much of a chance I have.

My resume is on my thread here:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/1215170-analysis-request.html

Please help me out, I just want a measure of my actual chance of admission.

@ray121988
My course load is only taken by three other kids I know in my class of 1000… At most, that means (I know almost everyone from rank 100 up) possibly 6 to 7 are taking it…out of 1000… Not to mention I’ve gotten straight A’s (or one B or two B’s) almost every semester (excluding the bad grades).

Do you think someone has a better chance of getting into Princeton/any Ivy if they are from Virginia or from Missouri?

@ChessMcahine. Princeton has a map of it’s past admissions geography. It will tell how many the school took from every state. That may help, it’s on the website.

Basing an approximation from that map, Missouri would much easier. P took 1 person from M and 46 from V.

HarvardBound: So then are you implying that students in states with fewer students attending Princeton may have a better chance in the Early Action round, most other things being equal? I understand that some say it is a double-edged sword in a sense, because you have to be a good representative of your state. However, is this generally the case? I don’t know the answer, I’m just curious because you seem pretty knowledgeable!

@Morris. I would think so, yes. Think about it. If there are 5000 applicants from cali, P has to sort through all of those very competitive kids. On the opposite, there may be around 14 applicants from Wyoming so the admission counsel has a way easier time picking through the applicants. Basically they should take the best applicant from each UR state.
