I feel like our SAT scores will be the death of us (I just looked at your chance me thread haha). I wrote my optional essay about why I didn’t study at all for my SATs, so hopefully that’ll put my score in context.

At my school, 3 kids are EDing (lol) to Penn CAS.

The thing that I find really weird is when talking about SAT scores. I did a summer program at penn this past summer and this girl literally said “Oh my god, my SAT score is Soooooooo bad, i got a 2070.” i was legit ready to punch her in the mouth…

But at school, kids will be like “I got an 1850!” and then everyone around is like wow great score! I mean, im not going to say “that score sucks” but still. i guess it is in perspective…
My school in general has sucky SAT scores (YES, I KNOW THAT IS NOT ALL THE COLLEGE LOOKS AT), the highest score is prob a 2270, which i think is really crazy… (thats not my score btw lol)

Does anyone else see this?

To add into this dialogue on competitive lifestyles, my school, or more specifically, the members of my graduating class, have been “plotting”/“gossiping” as to who was applying where my sophomore year. In fact, the summer leading up to this year, people were forming groups, meeting at Starbucks and the homes of others, at libraries and bookstores, etc. all to figure out where people were applying SCEA/ED/REA/etc (early). There were originally 4 kids applying ED to Penn (including me) with 1 speculated…then, after two months of peer pressure, one kid from the Penn ED pool switched to the Harvard EA pool. Talk about competition.

Dec 1-8 (all the days leading up to the 9th) will be sheer torture. As in, nervous, chills, excitement, anxiety, and all of those other common factors (humanistic characteristics) torture.

@laodicean, haha that’s so funny. I totally just looked at your stats too! I honestly don’t think so though. Going through previous decision threads, it seems like high scores were getting rejected, while plenty of low scorers were getting admitted. I would like to think Penn goes deeper than just scores. Do you have any sort of hook?

@johring, My school has terrible sat scores too, especially for being private (average is 1500).

@johring

Yeah, after I took my first SAT, everyone asked me what I got and I always felt like a jerk for saying, “not that good…,” because I knew I could do better (it was a 2050, which in Ivy League standards truly is mediocre).

@accordingtome

I really hope so too. I would love to think that my dream school cares more about who I am than a couple of numbers tell them. I am a legacy applicant, but I’m also Asian…so I have a hook and an anti-hook(?)
What about you?

Hahaha that’s funny, though I think being a legacy helps more than being Asian hurts you, if that makes sense. Ahh I love CC. It makes me feel so much better talking to people who are just as nervous as me. My friends aren’t into school really, so they think I’m weird for caring so much…

Yeah…I hope so, for my sanity’s sake!!

And me too. My friends care a lot also, but sometimes I think I annoy them too much with my Penn obsession, and that’s where CC comes in! What’s awesome is that I might be going to school with you guys haha. Let’s hope!

I TOTALLY annoy my friends. I feel like I talk about college 24/7.

Oh my gosh, I know right. Hopefully talking to future classmates right?? 3 weeks:)

Gahh…I’m getting too excited!! I just wanna rock my Penn wear knowing that I’m actually going there.

ME TOOOOO! I want to live on the east coast so badly!!! Philly just seems so amazing.

East coast is okay haha…weather is crazy!

Have you visited?

LOL everyone is bonding senior year at my school bcuz there is ALWAYS a topic we have in common… college.

Whenever there is a lapse in conversation, someone will say… “Ughh Dec 15 (or 9)” then chaos ensues lolz.

I didnt buy anything from any college, bcuz if i dont get in (crosses fingers that wont happen) then everytime id look at that sweatshirt id want to cry…

Haha, I guess we bond that way at my school too, but it’s a sensitive topic here since it’s SO competitive it ends up causing more stress.

I didn’t buy any clothes either, but I REALLY WANT TO JUST DECK OUT IN PENN APPAREL!!

I really want to join the Penn Class of 2016 group haha…and add all my new Penn friends on Facebook!

Oh and yes, I have visited! So beautiful. I just stepped on the campus and totally got the feeling that Penn was the school for me…Hope penn feels the same way about me!

It’s soooo cool to see people going through the same overwhelming and conflicting feelings that I’m going through! haha - that’s exactly how it is for me too, all I want to do is talk about college 24/7 and my school is just as competitive and gossipy about college and who’s applying where and who do you think will get in and stuff I thought it was just at my school but I guess it’s the same everywhere! I really really really hope I get in but of course, I’m trying to keep my expectations in check. Have you guys done your Regular Decision applications yet? I just don’t feel like it I keep having dreams about decision day too and it just keeps raising my expectations - even though half of them are more like bad dreams lol
I can’t wait till the day all of us get our decisions though and everyone posts them on this thread “I GOT IN”, etc. That’d be so cool
Good luck to all of youuuuu I hope all of us get in for being so obsessive hahaha and wanting it so badly!

(btw @laodicean: legacies always get in to Penn!!! Or at least like 80% of the time? Right?)

yeah

@laodicean, legacies always get in. You’re definitely in for SEAS but the M&T program probably doesn’t consider legacy.

I did explain it. And yes, I’m on Parchment. I don’t use it anymore.

@aangel and maani

I think they reject at least half of the legacy applicants for ED and more for RD…:/"

@accordingtome

Haha, oh god! So true!! I want to friend all of you (in a non-creepy way of course…).

At my school there are only two other ED applicants I know of to ANYWHERE. One girl is applying ED to BU and the valedictorian is applying ED to Brown…

The average SAT score at my school is a 1500 exactly according to the College Board. I got a 2210 and only one person in my class scored higher than me with a 2270. All of the kids in the “honors bubble” (I like this term a lot) attributed my score to sheer luck. Everyone thinks I’m much more stupid than I’m given credit for, I’m assuming it’s because I’m in the top 9% of the class… >_> (That bad rank will probably destroy my chances for penn).

^ wait you can find your school’s average SAT score on collegeboard?

and would you guys say being a first generation college attendee help more/less/same than being a legacy?
