Interviews aren’t mandatory, are they? I thought that they have to contact you first for an interview…

They do. You’re fine if you don’t get one :)

i want to go to UPenn CAS crazy bad…it is my dream. If i get in a would probably wake myself up. It would be insane if i could get accepted

Okay good! Someone on here said that is was mandatory and I started freaking out!

its insane how much stress waiting is causing…especially considering that we are at the point when nothing can be changed

I submitted my app on 10/31 and still not received call for interview. In my applicant portal, I don’t see SAT2, AP, and college transcript(I took 2 summer courses at Penn and ordered official transcript) under application info. do you guys see your SAT2 and AP in your application info list? I am worried that these material somehow get lost. Thanks.

Interviews are not mandatory, Penn ends up interviewing about half of its applicants.

@lih2012: You didn’t have to order your AP scores (you could’ve just put it on the Common App). When it receives your SAT, your SAT-IIs are included. College transcripts are uncommon so the portal probably won’t include that item, either. Remember, the portal is made for everyone, and so are the list of items on it. Not everyone gets an interview—the only person from my school to get in, ED, didn’t get an interview. So don’t fret! It is possible to get in without one!!

Penn ED apps for 2016 are down by only 0.98 percent…told you Harvard/Princeton EA wouldn’t make a difference!

Yay, Southern California! Anyone here from Pasadena/LA? Because I guess my regional person is busy. We’ll seee. I’m really jinxing it by TALKING about interviews so i’ll stop haha.
Yesssss and smart Indians. Can’t wait to NOT be as much of a minority. When i visited, i swear i almost saw only indians… craaazy
And yeah, haha. I’m not ACTUALLY going to party second semester. Come on, nerds are nerds. But i’ll be happy ;)

hardworking21, thank you.

Hi~ Kind of late in joining, but I thought I’d join anyway.

ED to CAS and, well, yeah, I’ve submitted my app, lol. Yes optional essay (like almost everyone here)… and the more I think about Penn, the more I want to go.

I just had my interview last week; I interviewed with a Wharton graduate. It was really laid back; she asked things like “why do you want to go to Penn?” and “what kind of extracurriculars do you participate in?” The only question that I wasn’t expecting was “if you weren’t going to college next year, what would you do?” My answers were all pretty generic so I don’t think I amazed her… my stats aren’t exactly stellar (or even up to par, to be honest) for Penn’s applicants, but hopefully ED will help…

Good luck to all~ :)

This wait is killing me!

Does any of you know the exact results day?

@special: First, love the username. Second, last year was Friday Dec 10. We can almost guarantee it’ll be on a Friday (it has been so many years in a row). So, I’d say either Friday the 9th or 16th of December.

aleesha101-
Daughter has applied. We do not live in Los Angeles, but we are not too far away in Orange County.

@maani:
I really don’t agree! I think Harvard/Princeton EA DEFINITELY made a difference!!! Applications are shooting up in so many places (an Ivy League education is only becoming more and more coveted with every passing day in today’s world) - Chicago’s seen an increase of 25% in its applicants this year (that is a LOT for a university) and for a place like Penn, with Wharton and everything, a drop (of however many percentage points) is significant. It shows that there’s LESSER people who applied this year (the numbers really don’t mean anything much) and that speaks for itself. Without Harvard/Princeton EA, I am willing to bet there would have DEFINITELY and without a doubt been an increase (however insignificant that could have been) in the number of ED applications to Penn.
At least that’s what I feel.
Either way though, we all have a 1 in 4 chance of getting in this year as well! Which is just AWESOME for an Ivy League like Pennnn :)

As Dean Furda (and others) point out in “The Daily Pennsylvanian” article, you really can’t read much into the relatively insignificant difference between this year’s and last year’s numbers of ED applications. In fact, the latest number of ED applications reported by Penn is 4,526, which is less than a 1% drop from last year:

[The Early Line on Early Applications for the Class of 2016 - NYTimes.com](The Early Line on Early Applications for the Class of 2016 - The New York Times)

And that number will probably end up being a bit higher, after receipt of all of the international applications sent by regular mail (some of which could take several weeks to get to Penn).

Also, as you’ll note from “The New York Times” table to which I linked, other top schools have had both increases and decreases in ED/EA applications this year, without following any particular pattern. For example, Columbia had a 5.68% decrease, MIT had a 4.72% decrease, and Stanford had a .83% decrease, while Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, and Duke all had increases of varying sizes. In fact, Penn had a significant increase in the number of ED applications last year (from about 3,880 the year before to 4,571), and for several years before that the number went both up and down from year to year.

The general trend, however, has definitely been up (and Penn still has the largest number–by far–of binding ED applications, as opposed to nonbinding EA applications, among its peers), but you really can’t draw conclusions from relatively small changes up or down from year to year.
