who's applying for 2012?

Hi everyone! My daughter is very excited at the possibility of going to Stonehill as it is her number 1 choice. Just was wondering who else is applying and if it is a top choice or safety for you. Daughter's GPA is 3.7 and SAT 1820, will be retaking the ACT in Oct. Good luck to everyone on the application process!

I’m applying and am very excited!!!It definitely in my top 2ish and i can definitely see my self there. Beautiful campus and I fell in love with the school on my tour and will be going for an interview in October!!! I think it kinda safety me as it is for your D. actually, my stats are nearly identical to hers. (96weighted/92 or 93 unweighted - my school doesn’t really provide it? and 1840 SAT) good luck with the ACT btw i’ll be retaking the SAT in October…im applying to some other schools as well like holy cross, boston university, suny geneseo, scranton, clarkson, maybe bucknell(not a big fan of greek life), and iona college. what other schools does your D want to apply to? Good luck to her senior year!

My D is also interviewing in late September and will be meeting with an adcom at her school next month. She is also applying to Boston University, Providence College, Northeastern, Marist and a couple of others as safeties. She is not into greek life either. We looked at Holy Cross also, she really does not like Worcester though.

US News ranks Holy Cross at #29 and Stonehill at #112 for the national liberal arts colleges.

Yes, I realize Holy Cross is ranked higher, but Stonehill seems to be a much better fit for her in many different aspects. It’s not always about the so called “better school”.

i agree, actually holy cross is my other top 2 school but i preferred the vibe and campus feel at stonehill although holy cross is definitely more prestigious. both are good schools though…

D just sent in her EA application. Did not realize the decisions don’t come out until mid=January :(, thought they were mid-December. Oh well, let the waiting begin! Anyway, anyone else applying EA?

I’m applying to Stonehill…I’m an international student, so it’s like a fairytale for me to visit campus. Can you tell me more about the campus? I’m also applying to Bates,Bowdoin,Bard and thinking about Holy Cross

The campus is by far the nicest out of all the schools we looked at. Beautiful grounds throughout complete with rolling green lawns and ponds. It is pretty much what you would expect a suburban New England college would look like. Very nice buildings, brand new science center, dorms were better than most other schools we saw. Cafeterias are great, we got to eat there when D went for interview, students in general love the food there.

From the schools that you have listed, I think Stonehill would be a safety/target for you?
We also looked at Holy Cross, campus was nice also, very hilly, beautiful old buildings. D does not like Worcester at all though so that is out for her. Something just clicked for her at Stonehill, she also really likes their study abroad program, so it is at the top of her list.

I thought Stonehill had a beautiful campus, some you can see online, but very small in size. One daughter felt claustrophobic, another thought it was quaint. A friend of theirs that goes there likes it, but said it doesn’t matter about the neighborhood, you don’t really get off. She envied the transportation my daughter had at Holy Cross, free shuttles to Boston, Providence and shopping every weekend. She said it can get old being on campus so much but she made great friends.
They do have a great study abroad program as mentioned. My daughter at HC can only go for the year (junior) which she likes but others might not.
