Who's applying for Fall transfer 09'-Cornell?

Hey guys sorry haven't been on in a while. I have a couple of major concerns now. In my computer science class, everyone is failing. It's really hard and I'm on the verge as well. I'm pushing myself so that I don't fail this course this semester. I'm a freshman, taking Calc III, Ordinary Differential Equations & Linear Algebra, General Chemistry, and Computer Science and my elective, Intermediate level German Language. If I fail COMP, then I'll have 3.56 otherwise, if I just pass, 3.68. They'll won't reject me if CGPA for 2nd semester is 3.56 right and if by some unfortunate circumstance I fail? My courses aren't easy as heck. And yeah, I do have the after application blues. So many people seem to be so good so I wonder how I'll ever get in. Whatever, my heart's in that app, so now whatever happens, happens. I got scared when the e-mail I received about the extension said, "It's been extended because of a record number of freshman applicants." How many transfer apps must there have been? Sigh....

I applied to school of arts and science as an economics major

I also applied to applied economics major, too

well, i'm screwed on the weather. i am prone to both heat stroke and hypothermia. but, i know how to stay cool and layer when needed. :)

anyone heard back from other colleges yet? i'm in at my last resort school, with a full ride! no idea how i pulled that off, probably because my father is from chile and i pulled the mayflower descendant card.

my family thinks i'm nuts to have applied to cornell. they think berkeley is too perfect (suffice to say we voted for diff. folks in the latest election).

vtlove,
how did you apply to both econ and AEM?

also, i think that might backfire for you because then Cornell might think that you arent truly passionate about the subject and rather just want a degree from Cornell...

zirtico, that s**ks, i'm sorry. i'm also having problems with my calculus prof, but not for calc III. youre definitely taking hard classes. is there going to be a curve? and i've been the same way - after reading everyone's stats, i've been so depressed and i lost most of my confidence. good luck though.

i didn't get an e-mail like that. do you get it only if you've already gotten your appid?

i just got extra depressed because this really stupid girl whos a year younger than me got in as a freshman. ugh shes seriously so dumb and annoying. why her and not me :(

sorry, i'm being a baby. :(

Trust me, this feeling does not leave even when you actually attend the school. Athletes, legacies, developmental cases, dumb whores, etc. take a lot of spots away from qualified applicants who "didn't make the cut."

yeah. seems like all the people who shouldnt be going to cornell always are. 4 kids from my graduating class are currently there, and i'd say only 2 of them really deserve it.

i'm just jealous. :(

You'll do fine but yeah I did feel like that last year. Believe it or not, I got rejected from my dream school and wound up at my second choice, Cornell. I know it's completely not what you want to hear but even if you don't end up at Cornell, your college experience is dictated almost entirely by your willingness to exploit the opportunities given to you.

Since they pushed the date back till the 31st-- does that mean that we will hear later from cornell. I applied to the Hotel School!

I don't know if they're gonna curve it ironicallyunsure, that's the problem. But like I said, I must pass it at any cost so we'll see what happens. But I am worried a bit about it, based on what criteria, besides lying on your application, can they revoke their acceptance? How bad do you really have to be and does a failed course automatically disqualify you or is the CGPA the determining factor? I'm feeling like crap because of loss of confidence at what all these other people have done, not that I think I'm a hopeless applicant, but I don't have a 4.0 which it seems like everyone does. The worst part for me is that I'll be forced to go back to a university at home if I don't get into Cornell. I've learnt so many invaluable lessons here at this university away from home in a crap place. I just hope I don't have to back home. Home is awesome, but not it's a last resort that will make things too easy for me and take away some important things I should be learning.

Applied Economics and Management

What are my chances of getting into AEM?

Here are my stats: (Accounting Major and planning to have a double major/minor in Computer Science or Finance)
1) GPA is 3.98 (All A except 1 B+)

2) 5 awards from County Executive, County Sheriff and Board of Chosen Freeholders (Leadership Award and commendation of Certificates).

3) Executive Board of Student Government Council (Secretary)
Treasurer at International Student Association
Head of 2009 SGC Election Committee
volunteering as a financial coach at non-profit organization
Student Ambassador
Math tutor
Phi Theta Kappa member
Assistant at Admissions Office
Dean's List
Certified 'Community Emergency Response Team' (CERT) Member

4) enlisted in an army for 26 months(Not the U.S. Army).
Six months of experience as a 4th Squad Leader.

5) Very strong recommendation letters from my accounting professor and
3 more letters from the President of my school, Dean, and Advisor of Phi Theta Kappa.

6) Earned 65 college-credits / High School GPA is really bad 3.1/4.0? But I earned more than 60 college-credits so I don't think that admission officers will look at my high school GPA that much.

7) Very unique diverse cultural backgrounds.
Born in South Korea
lived in Indonesia for 10 years. 3rd~12th grade.
Trilingual (Korean, Indonesian, English)

Please advise me on this.

ok you've posted this like a million times and since you didn't get an answer, here's my personal opinion:

i think that looks strong, and your unusual background and time in the army benefit you because you stand out. it seems like you have fantastic letters of rec and if your gpa is a 3.98 with 65 college credits i think you've proved that you're able to handle a lot of work and do extremely well. speaking indonesian also helps you stick out, i don't think many people who apply can say that. your ECs are pretty good as well.

so i think you have a very good shot.

zirtico, don't lie on your app. definitely not a good idea. i know it's tempting (see my posts about my ridic calc prof), but if they find out it'll be really bad. i'm sure you'll pull through, you seem very determined. if you haven't had spring break yet maybe you can use some of that time to really go over things that you're unsure of and get a better understanding to boost your grade again. someone told me that if a bad grade is going to be written on my mid-term report that i should write a letter explaining why i received it and that it doesn't reflect my normal performance so that's also something to try. and i know what you mean about going back home. is it because of the economy? i commute to my current school so i'm always at home but i also wouldn't mind staying at my school, i just have a personal reason for wanting to go to cornell. good luck with everything though and if you need to vent, PM me and we'll chat. :)

How can you tell if Cornell received your financial aid stuff on the "To Do List?" Cuz I send my stuff in like a month ago!

So when have people been notified of decisions in previous years? Has everyone heard at the same time, or does it vary by major or college applied to or when the original app was submitted? (will the people who applied Feb. 15th hear a decision significantly sooner than the people who applied March 15th? What is the earliest I could possibly expect a decision?

Also, does anyone know where to find data on the number of students (total) in a particular major, the number of transfer students accepted in other years to particular majors, or even the number of applicants in other years who applied to particular majors?

Okay, I just called them, and they said that if I did send out my files, they probably have not been caught up with my files in particular. So if they didn't receive any of my stuff yet within like 2-3 weeks, I should back. They are behind on their financial aid also.

Looks like you guys have been discussing a lot of issues...

BTW, anyone here applying for CAS chemistry?

it suckssss about the freshman thing... news said that since cornell is giving low tuition to their instate low financial families, more students have been deciding to apply there. great... well im semi confident in my application, it is my number one school, but i was already accepted into my number 2 school (TCNJ). the problem is that their deadline was feb 15th and their deposit is due may 1st... **** me if i got into cornell and ended up losing 150 dollars... but if this freshman thing pushed us back so far, then its probably what i'll end up doooinnggg...

i applied to ILR btw... anyone know how much weight the interview could pull?
