Who's applying for Spring transfer 09'-Cornell

That does seem high, but when you think about it, they're only accepting about 20 people. You shouldn't focus on acceptance rate when there's such a small sampling of applicants (40).

ok, I am freaking out!! My essays are no good! :( Has everyone submitted everything already?

And what do you guys think, when will we hear from them?

HopingFor: maybe they're tyring to get our hopes up so they can take our 70$. JK

I thought about the chances and I really don't care about the numbers anymore. I think that as long as you have a good GPA, great Recs and a respectable reason for transfer then you shouldn't be worrying.

Travelbook, when I first wrote my essay, I thought it was crap as well; I didn't find it attractive. I looked up some example essays and changed my essay accordingly(I made my essay more personal and tried to be "witty"). I would advise you of searching up information on "how to write an entrance essay" or look up example essays.

50% is a lot! I'm going to email admissions and ask them what the transfer acceptance rate is for HumEc. I'm nervous because I can't take any of the classes they want transfers to take since I get no freedom with my schedule and have to take liberal artsy humanities courses for 2 yrs straight at NYU.

thanks zakaqel!! I will, I mean, my essays do suck, but they're def personal. But they suck. lol, ah well, I'm just gonna send them in and see what happens I guess.

So, do you guys think that recommendations have a lot of weight?
My teacher told me he had sent his in, and he told me that he had written a very strong recommendation.

Absolutely, Recs are one of the only tangible things (along with essays) that differentiate your GPA from someone's that is quite similar otherwise.

I'm really curious, what are people's basic stats...

I love comparing, so here are mine:

High School:
GPA: 3.0
ACT: 26 (I know and without Writing)
Extras: FBLA, DECA, and Varsity Golf

College: Colorado State University (Resident)
GPA: 3.724 (will be 3.805 after this semester) - One 4 CR. "C," while all the rest are A's
Major: Psychology (Honors Student)
Year: Sophomore (for Junior year transfer)
Extras: Residence Life (RA - First Year), Research Assistant (Psych Depart. - Involved for 2 semesters), and Vice President of Alpha Phi Omega (Co-ed Community Service Frat - Third Semester)

Hopefully I'll be able to have some idea of the competition! ;)

i posted this before; here are my stats:

Canadian, Male

Wayne State University (WSU)

Reasons for transfer-
The place I am in right now really sucks. Academically speaking, I can’t stand the school’s atmosphere because I feel as if half the school is academically retarded. I really didn’t want to enroll at WSU in the first place; I attend WSU because of my financial/family situation. I have always attended schools which were respectable and intellectually challenging. I feel as if attending WSU limits my chances of success and does not allow me to achieve my full potential.

High School-
GPA: 89%~3.75(Grades were a bit low because I was involved in an “Enriched” program)
SAT/ACT scores: I didn’t write either of the tests because it was not required of me as a Canadian student.
EC’s: I joined a bunch of clubs and was partly responsible for organizing some large events like “Relay for life”. I also did a bit of volunteering around the community.

College-
Major: Honors Chemistry/University Honors co-major (pre-med)
Credits: 60 including this semester
GPA: 4.0
Past Courses (I received an A in every course):
Honors Gen/Organic Chemistry I
Honors Organic Chemistry II
Analytical Chemistry
Basic Composition (English)
Elementary Greek
Calculus 1
Calculus 2
Basic Life Mechanisms(BIO I)
Basic Life Diversity (BIO II)
Microeconomics
Note: The honors chemistry/bio courses had labs integrated within the course
Current Courses:
Calculus-Based Physics I
Calculus-Based Physics I lab
Calculus-Based Physics II
Calculus 3
World Regional Patterns (Geography)
(So far, A in every course)
Note: I got special permission from the physics department to take physics I/II at the same time.

EC’s: Most of my EC’s are academic based. I have joined a couple of minor clubs but I wouldn’t say I am a “hard-core” member. I currently work as an undergraduate researcher in molecular genetics at the BIO department. I also participate in a couple of cultural organizations within my community.

Recommendations: I sent in a letter from my English professor who once told me that I was his “best student in his 30 years of teaching”. The professor who taught me calculus sent me a letter thanking me for my active participation in the class; I think the rec he wrote me was pretty good.

Well you're in.

I personally have one damn 4 Credit "C."

Everything else is an A or A+.

Sucks, I feel it's the only thing that holds back my app.

High School:
GPA: 3.7
SAT: 2270(770M,740CR,760W)
SAT II: Math II-780, Chemistry-750, US Hist-690
Extras: Chemistry Olympiad Regional finalist, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society Chapter Co-President, Varsity Basketball, some other stuff

College: University of Maryland-College Park
GPA: 3.79/4(or 3.86 if you count +/- which we dont)
Major: Business (Honors Student)
Year: Sophomore (for Spring Transfer)
Extras: Finance/Banking Investment Society, Society for Green Business, Blood Drive coordinator

Brief list of stats:

High school GPA: 2.7
ACT-31
SAT-2080 (720M, 700W, 660CR)

Currently attending: Michigan State University
College GPA: 3.9 (~3.95 after this semester), mostly difficult/honors courses
Major: Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (honors)
Applying as a spring sophomore to CAS Biology.
EC's:Lab research (4 semesters, publication(s) in progress), 3 semesters hospital volunteer
Reasons for transfer: 1) Looking for a different social atmosphere 2) More challenging curriculum 3) Want to do anything I can to increase my chances of getting into grad/med school
Why Cornell? Excellent EEB program (what I'm trying to go into), diverse, motivated student body, and from what I hear, many people interested in the outdoors.

High School GPA: 3.4-3.5, Local Resident of Ithaca.
SAT - 2180 (790M, 710R, 680W)
SATII - 720 BIO, 760 CHEM, 780 MATHII

Currently attending: University of Rochester, sophomore
College GPA (I'm a spring entry, so I am currently attending my second semester): 4.0
(Writing Seminar, Linear Algebra, Physics Mechanics, General Chemistry II(5 credits))

Major: Chemistry/Applied Math, Both B.S
Applying to: CAS Chemistry
EC: Charles R. Drew Society/Bioethics Discussion Group
During high school 11th and 12th grade, I was a member for Cornell's Kendo Club.
Piano, since age of 5

Took three Cornell Classes: Orgo: A-, Multivariable Calculus: B-, General Biology: C+
Recommendation: the Cornell Professor who taught Orgo

Midyear report: Physics E&M: A
Math modeling for political science: A
History of technology: A
Philosophy of Religion: B/B-
Organic Chemistry Lab Lecture(1 credit): B

I have applied to Human Ecology as a senior highschooler and was rejected. I wrote a strong essay of why CAS fits me better along with my newfound chemistry major. My other two essays were also excellent from what many people said. This is my strongest point along with my GPA.

not feeling too good about my extracurriculars compared to other people, this is my weakest point. =</p>

...um, ok, if I am competing against you guys. I don't have a chance. :( I hope that admissions, really, really, reallly, really, really like my crappy essays?

I would keep in mind that the CC applicant pool may not be entirely representative of the applicant pool as a whole (most people on CC have a very strong desire to transfer). I don't think you'll be "competing" against everyone, per se, but rather along side them (especially with such a small applicant pool in the spring).

Has everyone joined the Facebook group zakaqel created?

Travelbook, what are your stats? I can't imagine if you're this proactive that you're that down and out. If your essays are ****ty, don't hesitate and throw em away.

HopingFor: I wish it was that easy..lol..I really think me not having taken SATs will hurt me. That is, eventhough they say that they are not required if you didn't take them.

BTW, I think you have three "killer" ECs.

Damn you guys are good!

Transferstudent: I think the rec from the cornell prof. will extremely help you. Maybe the fact that you are from Ithaca will help?

Spartan: Kick@ss GPA +ECs. Wow, the journal being published should be a big bonus.

Travelbook: Get someone to read it and ask them what they think . If they say it's bad then rewrite the whole thing. BTW, make sure they are telling the truth and not just being nice.

So everything is submitted and sent in. Now I'm thinking, when am I going to hear back? They say "December," but does anyone have any idea what the tendency is? First week, second?
