Who's applying for Spring transfer 10'-Cornell?

My instructor evaluation still isn’t in, and it was sent out 2 weeks ago =x. Either they’re still backed up with materials, or perhaps my instructor did something like she forgot to include the form with her rec letter, haha.

I shall wait.

Oh, on another note, I discovered that one of my classmates last year (she was like me with the whole I can’t do art for the rest of my life, I need to do something academic or I’ll die here) had taken the initiative (UNLIKE me…ugh) and applied to transfer. Now she’s at Washington University in St. Louis, doing her thing. The only difference is her high school was even more hardcore than mine (parochial private school, the kind where Bill Clinton comes and gives a speech to the students).

So it’s a ray of hope for me. I’m trying to feel sort of Zen about this whole thing right now, haha.

i keep switching from being really confident to thinking i have no shot at all. it’s stupid, but i don’t know. i also just got back a test grade from the only class that didn’t have a current grade for me, and i’m not too pleased, so we’ll see what happens.

well c’mon I ironic…I gained confidence a little when I found out that I was at least in the 10% at college. you are probably like in the top 1%…lol

jokes, but thanks for having faith in me haha. blahhhhhhhhh so much work to dooooo

Cheer up, Ironic! I meant what I said on the email. You have an amazing shot. Be positive :)

I think we’re all nervous about our chances; it’s perfectly normal. I’m still not sure about how not having all of the pre-reqs will affect me. And I’ll make sure to e-mail you back tonight about the essays, ironic.

And jemma, your friends input would still be greatly appreciated since I have 2 more schools to apply to. I totally understand that she’s been swamped with work for the past couple of weeks.

Would anyone like me to read their essays? I just want to get a sense of what everyone wrote/how people wrote them.

Ironic, I’m getting the highs/lows feeling too. The funny thing is that RISD divides students into sections for their foundations studio classes, and in my first semester section, 2 other girls transferred (1 to Wash. U in St. Louis, the other to U Mass in Amherst), making me the 3rd in that section to possibly leave. In my 2nd semester section, 1 girl transferred to a university in Texas. And overall, RISD students rarely ever transfer. I feel like what’s bringing me down is simply the fact I’m coming from an art school (with a GPA that shows it), and thus haven’t exactly had the chance to fill all my prereqs (but I’m only missing one). But the girls who have transferred before me make me feel better.

Perhaps 3rd/4th time’s a charm?! =D

Sure, Az. It would be great if you read my essays. Other opinions are always welcome. I’ll pm it to you later if that’s cool with you.

Sounds good =)
Anything to make the next 3 weeks pass more quickly, haha.

Right now I’m in the “feeling confident but not letting myself get too invested in this future” zone.

Az, if you’d my essays I’d appreciate it

Terron, as soon as she sends it (hopefull by this week) I’ll send it to you. Promise. I also have to do even more applications. When will this essays be over. LOL

Az, I am feeling the same way lol. I would love for you to read my essays. Should I sent them through pm or through email?

Anyone can just PM me their essays =P
I’ll read them over and let you know what I think. If you’re still sending them out to other schools I’ll give you some constructive crit, but if you’re not, I’ll just let you know what I think were some really strong points (I mean what’s the point of telling someone what they have to change if they can’t >_>).
That’s why I’m not showing my essays to anyone, hehe.

i also love reading essays so… you can pm them to me, or e-mail them to ironicallyunsure@gmail.com and i’ll tell you what i think if you want lol

Jem- It’s cool. No rush. I feel confident with my final product so there’s no need to stress her.

Az- The essays have been sent over your way.

Ironic- I’ve been trying to finish a book for class all day today, but I’m finished for the moment and I’ll re-read your essays now and e-mail you back promptly.

Now that all of that is out of the way, what’s the deal with the on-campus housing at Cornell? I lived on campus at my current school for the first two years and although it was pretty expensive (they have a tendency of charging you a lot because of monopolies on certain areas) I really liked the apartment style housing since everyone had their own bedrooms and just shared a full bathroom with one other person. Is there anything similar at Cornell?

XDD Haha so much essay swapping. I like my essay…it’s basically an improved version of my essay from the fall semester, plus some additives on the torture of financial issues blocking me from attending…rawr.

Ugh. So much work to do…lab reports, essays, and mad readings…I wish I had more time to sit and say ‘WHERE’S MY ACCEPTANCE’ lol.

Not to mention that’s one thing that sucks about community college…I’m balancing 3-4 days of work along with all my work. And come 2 weeks till X-mas, Target is open 'till midnight. Well that’s just fantastic.

@east: What do you mean, like how does housing work? As transfers, we’re all guaranteed on campus housing. It’s expensive, decently anyway, and we’ll most likely be on West Campus. Unlucky transfers get stuck on North Campus with all the freshman (but they make the best of the townhouses up there), and then a couple others will be in Schuyler House which is now all transfers (or almost all) I believe. That house is closer to college town. It’s nice, just kinda far from classes.

Otherwise, the west campus has dorms in the main five buildings (Rose, Bethe, Keeton, etc.) then the Gothics are now attached to specific main buildings (meaning, if you’re in Baker Tower, you eat at a particular dining hall, I forget which.)

North Campus has the townhouses for transfers. Don’t know much about them…I really just wanna be on West.

So water, I’m curious, why didn’t you just ask to be deferred until the spring semester?

I’m guessing it wasn’t an option for some reason?

i really want a single in a suite on west campus. the slope sucks, but hey… it happens. most of the transfers are there and i know a lot of people who live on west campus, so it would be cool to be around everyone else.

^–Yeah. Btw, I edited my last post with info on the dorms.

I went with my parents to discuss things with the FA office. They basically said, we’ve got nothing else for you given what information you’ve provided for us. Then I went to Cathy for a meeting and she said they don’t give regular transfer acceptances the option to defer (or rather, they don’t give us Guaranteed Transfer options.) So I was stuck with reapplying. Even when the re-evaluation for aid came, I was able to get work study and a little something extra in loans, but it wasn’t enough for my parent’s family contribution. It’s complicated, but no worries. I’m confident in my re-app. I did find out, though, from someone on here, the one way you can defer is by telling the committee you’re too sick to attend for the semester after accepting it, or something. Then they defer you…but isn’t that like, an awful thing to lie about? Hahaha.

Me too, ironic, I’d like to be in a single-suite because you get your own space, yet you’re still with some folks so it’s not lonely nor do you become a loner :X haha.

But I wouldn’t mind a double…I’d rather know the person beforehand though…definitely want West Campus though. Being all the way up on north would be troublesome.

yeah water, out of all of us, i think you’re the most likely to get in. what school/major are you applying to again?

CALS for communications. Especially considering CALS was so fit-based, and they already said I fit…by accepting me once…so considering not much has changed since then, the only way they could deny me (in my mind) is because there’s a mad overload of incredible CALS applicants. Since they said the spring pool is usually give and take, not nearly as competitive as fall, I’m feeling good (wow, now I sound cocky…I’ll stop, I’m not usually like this, haha.)

If I don’t get in for spring though, I’ll be completely baffled…I can’t spend another semester at my CC. I’d have to take 2 gym classes to fulfill their graduation requirements as well as take some random filler classes that are guaranteed not to transfer. That would suck…dibs Ithaca over Queensbury, NY. Hahah.
