Who's applying for Spring transfer 10'-Cornell?

I found a one bedroom apartment in Collegetown specifically subletting for Spring semester. My boyfriend lives there, and I know a whole bunch of people both from my graduating class in high school, my Chinese school, and my boyfriend’s friends, so I think I’ll be okay in terms of social networking, haha.

And I am SOOOOOOOOO glad to hear from you, Wateradept, that CALS spring is not as competitive as fall (though what do you mean by give and take?). CALS already has the highest admissions rate I think, out of all the schools, for transfers, and I know that because Cornell has had their budget cut down a LOT, that they’re accepting a few more students now.
Still nervous though. I asked admissions if there was a huge flood of applicants and they didn’t know at the time, but I’m guessing there is if there’s a backlog of materials. And if CALS is so fit-based, that also makes me nervous, because I’m coming from an art school and wanting to go into animal science (but I really, desperately, want out of here…emphasis on the word desperate. Hopefully showed in my essays).

If I don’t get in for Spring, I’ll probably go crazy, not even kidding. I can’t spend anymore time here.

Reading essays now!

haha yeah, i have a lot of friends up there already, plus everyone is really friendly and nice. i always meet great people up there, and it would be cool to see a bunch of you there also! water, i hope you get in, and it’s good to hear about the not-as-competitive thing. they put you up against the other applicants, so it largely depends on how many people are applying and how great their stats are. water, would you read my essays since you’ve been accepted once and clearly know what you’re doing?

I wouldn’t say I know what I’m doing, entirely, just that they liked me last time XD But I like reading essays, sure! Idk, if you email or PM them?

@Aze: Cathy told me in June when I met with her that spring is considerably less competitive just because they don’t get nearly as many applicants, yet they’ve got a good amount of spots to fill. Chances are, if you don’t in for spring, you’ll get a GT. When I was applying for fall, this place was PACKED with applicants asking questions and talking to each other…considering right now, it’s only us…what? 10? tops? I like all our chances.

And yeah, Aze, essays at CALS are the way to express and show yourself. In addition, I kept in consistent contact with the admissions office, made sure they had stuff…although I had quite a few months to keep that up. Spring transfers, we’re kind of stuck in this tight time span.

wait wait wait…water, you are applying for CALS communication too? crap i dont have a chance then

Hahaha, thanks, but I’m not special. I need to make sure my midterm grades are stellar to make up for my suckish summer bio class…

Hope you make it valv! I don’t think they accept based on major. I just know majors like Viticulture, Biology, and Environ-Engineering are way more picky. Especially if you mention anything about Pre-Med in your essay. Then Cathy said they automatically switch to their “Pre-med caps” and judge you based on scores, specific course grades, and overall GPA. If anyone doesn’t get in and they mentioned Pre-med in their essay, that’s why. You need at least a 3.6 and an awesome essay to impress on that occasion.

Ironic- Your essays have been reviewed. Great job. I really liked your common app and challenge essays.

Water- Your situation last semester really sucked but you probably won’t have any trouble getting in for this semester. Still, it would have been much simpler for them to save you the trouble of applying again and just allow you to transfer. Surely they have to know that not everyone will be financially endowed enough to immediately come up with the funds.

Valvsu- Lulz!

Iknorite? Haha…I don’t get it. Nevertheless, I’m still just as worried. Hopefully Cathy still remembers us and my situation…she gave me excellent praise in the meeting for fit at the school. That’s gotta count for something, right!? XD All will be calmed when I see the envelope again.

Oh god. Well, pre-vet isn’t the same as pre-med, so I hope I’m safe, because I specifically mentioned pre-vet as my goal. Rawrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

I’m sorry if I don’t get everyone’s essays back to them soon, I have my first midterm (eek) on Friday, though it’s freakishly easy. I did a 1 hr practice exam in 10 minutes. So I feel confident.

I just want to say that if I get in, I would love to meet everyone on this thread when we arrive on campus =)

Ditto, Azu! We’ll all have to grab cocoa and coffee in collegetown or something, since it’ll be like, -10 when we arrive! Haha. And ironic, I just finished reading your essays. My lord, if they don’t accept you, I don’t know who they will accept, haha. I loved all of them; while mine was very straight to the point and a little less colorful than my previous essay (partially due to my dad helping me edit it and my mom reading it, I blame them considering they’re basically of the mindset that creativity = rambling), yours was bright, excellent vocab and you expressed your Cornell-specific interest perfectly.

not pre-med but i mentioned being a lawyer a little bit because intellectual property lawyers are somewhat demanding nowadays…i hope this doesn’t decrease my chances…

thanks so much water, that means so much to me, haha. i really put my heart and soul into everything this time around, and i hope that they can see that. good luck everyone, i’m off to bed since i have to be up super early, but i’ll be back tomorrow (of course).

wow…u guys already are looking into housing and stuff ??? i don’t even dare to look because I don’t wana get my hope up! I’m a pre-med but I didn’t mention anything about being a pre-med but when I saw Cathy I told her I was a pre-med…

i need mid october to come now so i can send out my grade reports :[ :[

I really don’t like that I’ve never spoken to anyone from Cornell. Cathy, Ian, Paul? Who the devil are these people

Cathy is your god. Paul is your savior. Ian is the holy spirit.

Why have you not sought salvation through their eternal love and wisdom, my child?

riley, I was thinking the exact same thing LOL I know that Ian is ILR guy. But who are the rest of them???

Cathy = head of CALS transfers. She’s nice, but still tells you like it is. I like her.

Speaking of Cathy, I’m at the library now doing chemistry readings and discussion posts for my online class, but I’m anxiously awaiting Cathy’s response to my last email (except shes not back in office till tomorrow, lol.)

Good luck to everyone. I have a feeling that we will all meet in January!!!
I’m hoping to get a single room for Spring.

i have a question…my official midterm grades just got available and they are not the same as the midterm grades that i sent to cornell…i mean i have the professors’ signs and everything on the form but…would this be okay? do they check with the school to assure?

Don’t worry about it. As long as the professors signed the forms and put your original grades on there, you’re fine. I seriously doubt they’ll call your professor just to verify that you’re actually making an A in history this semester.
