that’s what I did last semester, serendipity. You just go and ask them for the grade, class, class #, and signature. Then I’m pretty sure I mailed them myself.

EDIT: Anyone in CALS emailed and gotten responses from Cathy lately? I asked her if she could double check on everything for me…gah, I need to make sure I don’t have to resubmit FA forms…guess I’ll call soon or something.

Val, dude, you’re not the only one worrying. I have a 3.92 gpa (I’m not even sure which percentile I’m in since my school doesn’t rank until graduation), but I still feel like my chances are slim. Maybe I worry too much but I feel like there’s a lot counting agaisnt me. Anyway, It’s not all about gpa.

thanks east89. and now i just found out that our frat’s (Delta Chi) headquater is Cornell University (it’s like an honor frat where no drinking takes place lol)…now i regret that i shouldve gotten a rec letter from the frat’s authority…too late right? i put just the name on my common app

ugh you guys at least have your apps finished. i still need that one freaking grade! and of course my professor didn’t come to class today when i had the form in hand. she just left a movie with the TAs so she wasn’t even there. gah, so annoying and frustrating. i’ll hopefully have her signature and grade on friday and then i can mail in everything on saturday.

and my gpa is a lot lower than you guys’s (is that even how i write that? lol) so i’m fully relying on my essays and recs to get me in.

^–ditto. They liked my rec from last year, and my essay was right to the point on why Cornell, why communications. My GPA is 3.2, higher after this semester since I’m rocking all As (but I’m still 2-3 weeks from midterms.)

Crossing my fingers FA doesn’t need forms from me…I’ll call on Friday if I don’t get email responses from Cathy.

you got in once, i’m sure you’ll be alright again. i keep switching between being really nervous and really confident. i also just checked the self-service site and it has all of my things checked off now, so that’s good. i guess they’re just waiting for that one grade and then hopefully they can forward it to the adcoms. how long were your commonapp (why transfer) essays? mine was 2 pages single spaced and i don’t know if i made it too long. i was going to write even more, but i thought it would be best to not give them a novel.

I’m going to call about the tax returns tomorrow.
As for GPA, last time I checked, it was a 3.6, when I’ve been above 3.75 for my entire high school career unweighted, even with 10 AP classes. But RISD doesn’t rank, and the classes that dragged me down don’t exactly show how I’ll do in animal sciences at CALS, so I’m not worried. Plus the fact that RISD has 1200 kids total, none of us have enough time to sleep apart from eating/working/doing drugs or something -_-" means that we don’t have extracurriculars, really, to participate in. So my essay is what’s carrying my passion through (plus my one rec letter lol).
Going in for midterm grades next week. Feeling mellow. Good luck to all =)

crap i forgot that they look at high school, although they said that since i have a lot of credits it won’t be weighed too heavily. ughhhhhhhhhh this wait is going to be excruciating, and knowing that they won’t even start to take a look until i send this dumb grade in makes it even worse.

i shouldn’t let myself on CC until november lol

I have a 4.0 and I’m still terrified. Anyone know about the “number of terms in attendance” on the midterm report? What we’re supposed to put in there? Like, just one term? Obviously?

Ironic, don’t ban yourself from cc. Right now we are like each other support in this nutty process.

I do believe that the GPA, although it plays a part in admission, it does not have the greatest weight. Essays and recs are the most important part of your application. For what I know, they want applicants to become somebody in their essays. In other words, and this is not meant to be creepy, they want the applicants to leave a little part of their soul in their essays. LORs are like the cupcake baking sheet and the cupcake mix are the essays. If you don’t put the right ingredients and cook it well, the cupcakes will turn out dry and nasty. But if you do mix everything correctly, bake it the right amount of time and put a little love into it, you will have a yummy chocolatey moisty cupcake (and now Im hungry). The LORs and essay are the most important part but neither can stand by itself. So everybody breath and stop focusing on every little nitty gritty detail!!

I know we all want this soooooooooo baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad but we can be negative. Positive thinking is the way to go. We will have our chance and if it doesnt happen then there was a reason. But no more stressing out or pulling your hair out about what the outcome might be. The forms are in their hands now. The important thing is that each of us did our absolute best. If it happens then throw a cornell party, if it doesnt than throw an im still awesome party. But this is not the end nor it should be! Say it with me uuuuuuzzzzzzzzzzzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. =)
<3

Good luck with your applications. Don’t worry about GPA too much. We’ve seen people with a 3.57 transfer into Cornell, into one of the more difficult majors to transfer into at that. It is very much about how well you represent yourself in your essays and how your recommendations portrayed you.

people just remember… QUE SERA SERA !!!
u all should be enjoying ur day with whatever u have now and hope for the best !!!
like jemma says…if it happens it happens but if not then it happens for a reason !
keep on having faith and believing in urself !

Ironic- I still don’t have my mid term report in and there’s not a damn thing I can do about it. I need the grade for my southern and central african history class, and I was going to get it last Thursday since our tests had just been graded but my professor is currently in the hospital for heart surgery (it’s really sad since he’s such a nice guy; everyone loves him.) Now we’ve been merged into another class and the new professor said that she won’t have access to the grades until Monday at the earliest. If she doesn’t give me an A+ I’m going to be ****ed since I made the highest grade in the class on the test and I’ve consistently made 2.5 out of 2 on the quizzes (obviously I was given an extra half of a point for my efforts.)

Water- You should join the yahoo group. I think everyone would appreciate the critiques of a person who was already accepted once.

Az- Just tell your parents to make copies of the forms and send them overnight. If all of the stuff for your application isn’t in yet, they haven’t even started reviewing you for financial aid anyway.

Riley- You have a 4.0 and you’re terrified? If you did fine in high school as well, you should have nothing to worry about.

Jemma- I don’t think LOR are the most important portion of an applicant’s packet.

edit: Ok, seriously. I can say damn, but I can’t say p-issed? Wow.

Also, this site really needs a proper quoting system; There’s no excuse for a message board to not have one in 2009.

I believe it depends on the student for which part of your application will be given more weight. For example, my college GPA/high school and college extracurriculars will not be accurate indications of what I’m trying to achieve, as it is my essays that show what I really want to do with my life. For those who did poorly in high school but showed a huge turnaround in college and acknowledge it, college GPA etc. will be given more weight.

I’m just glad Cornell doesn’t do a “points system” thing like some other schools.

east- I didn’t say that the LOR are the most important part of the application. I said that what admissions officer want is to see the applicant as a person rather than a statistic. The GPA doesnt say much,it demonstrate you r good student (and even then we all know how that it isnt even a good indicative of it). It is a just a number that adds to the many details of an applicant. However, the essays if done correctly can help the officers get an essence of who you are and the LOR helps it. Thats what I meant. and Don’t Stop Believing is awesome (and will also forever remind me of the ending of The Sopranos lol)

Jemma- you said “Essays and recs are the most important part of your application.” I see what you’re saying now though and I agree. However, I have no clue what the most important portions are and I just tried to make myself as well-rounded as possible. Additionally, my essays and LOR are the only portions of my application which I’m not worried about.

yeah, same, east. i like my essays a whole lot more than i did last time around and i know my LORs will be solid. i’m freaking out over that stupid chemistry grade, but i think i still have a fairly good gpa even with 2 bad grades on my transcript. i take really hard classes and i try, and my ECs are pretty good, but i don’t know. i guess having been rejected once makes me feel like they’ll have no problem doing it again even though i’ve made significant changes and improvements.

The ad coms will most likely be easy on you since it’s difficult to get great grades in arduous classes. I wouldn’t worry if I were you.

I just realized that we never posted our stats. It’s not necessary, but from what I’ve seen, that’s usually done within the first few pages of a “Who’s Applying” thread.
