eek! I am now officially nervous lol East, my instructor evaluation hasn’t been updated either, which sucks :(. But I am sure its because they have a bunch of paperwork yet to file. So, I am trying to breather. Also, I just want them to review my app and send the decision like yesterday lol Patience is not one of my strongest qualities lol

I think RileyJohn is applying for Human Ecology.

I cannot be the only one applying for CAS. Well either way thats good news for me!!! So let it be just me applying for the CAS out of the all the applicants. That will be truly delightful lol

East you go to GSU? wow I all of a sudden feel really close to you in terms of proximity. I am not far away from you lol (about 250 miles I guess)

yeah, rileyjohn and i are actually both applying for the same major. it’ll be interesting to see how that turns out, but then again, we’re completely different people and i’m sure our applications will show that.

we’re the only ones applying that we know of from this thread. there are obviously other applicants who don’t come on CC, though i would love for it to be required of all applicants so i could size up my competition haha.

sorry about the faxing thing. i’m not applying for FA so i don’t know what they told anyone and i read the midterm report thing on the website, so i was just going by that. you guys are probably completely right. now if only i could get my fax machine to work to send this grade. hmmm. also i read online that they’ll start mailing decisions a month after they start reviewing apps and they will continue to mail decisions for another 6 weeks after that, so we’ll know in 4 - 10 weeks i guess.

Well I can no longer edit my post, but I guess RileyJohn is added to the Human Ecology list as well.

Jemma- It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one who has stuff which isn’t checked off yet. I, too, wanted them to make a decision ASAP but I guess I’ll have to wait.

Val- Yea, I’ve been at GSU for the last two years. It was cool when I got here because I was just glad that I was accepted into a college due to my horrible first two years of HS, but I hate it now for various reasons. 250 miles (about 4 and a half hours by car) is still a little far away though, lol. BTW, if anyone cares (which I know you all do because you live your lives vicariously through me, lol) I’m originally from NY and moved to GA during HS.

Ironic- Well, yea, I know there’s hundreds of people who are applying who don’t use CC, but maybe juxtaposing this thread and the fall 09 thread can serve as a microcosm for the size of the applicant pool. By that, I mean that since last semester’s thread was packed with applicants, while this one only has about 10 active users, the number of Cornell hopefuls is probably significantly less than the number for fall. I’m just hoping that those people who aren’t on CC aren’t super geniuses with 4.3 GPAs and letters of recommendation from the president.

Also, if you don’t mind me asking, how are you paying for all of this if you’re not applying for FA?

i wasn’t trying to be mean by saying that, i just meant that we shouldn’t get our hopes too high, that’s all. you’re definitely right about fewer applicants, though, which of course makes me really happy lol plus hopefully we’ll hear back sooner and i’m really excited since i commute because this means that i can finally do the real living at college thing. i’m really psyched for that actually haha

i have a grandma who has a lot of money and nothing to do with it, so i’m set through grad school and whatever. i’ll probably apply for FA for next year though, just because there’s no point in spending tons of money if i can save some. they do give a lot of FA though, and most of the people i know who get it got really great packages.

I didn’t think you were being mean at all (personally, I think you’re one of the nicest and most helpful people on this site), I just think CC is at least a fair assessment of size of the applicant pool. As far as the credentials of applicants, who knows?

That’s great that a member of your family is supplementing the funding for your education so much. I wish I could say the same, but like you said, Cornell does give some pretty good FA packages. Hopefully it’ll be the same for me.

I feel like the people who aren’t on college confidential are the ones who are either so confident that they’ll get in because of their awesome grades and whatnot that they don’t feel the need to come here and talk about it with other people. Or, they don’t care as much about getting into Cornell opposed to some other school (what other school…?), and that will probably show in their essays…or they’re not applying.

So I think that with a smaller pool but with a decent amount of openings, we do represent a pretty good standard out of all the applicants (not the absolute best, of course, but pretty good =P).

Well there’s always those people who don’t know about college confidential, too. I personally stumbled across the site when doing a google search so I’m sure there’s plenty of cornell hopefuls who know nothing about the site. I owe a lot to this site though. Before coming here, I thought the highest college I could transfer to would be UGA because of my horrible high school record, but look at me now. I’m applying to three of the world’s top schools (NYU, Emory and Cornell) and some of you have even said that you’re glad I’m not applying to your perspective colleges due to my stellar essays (I wouldn’t call them stellar, but I think that’s an accurate assessment of how several of you feel about them.) Even still, I wouldn’t have been able to write those essays if it weren’t for Jemma and Ironic since I initially filled my essays with writing which was against the unwritten rules for transfer essays. Even if I don’t get in, I’m still amazed that I’ve gone from failing classes in high school and being deterred by a tier 4 university to being in fierce competition with some of the best students/leaders in the nation for a coveted spot in the ivy league. I owe a lot to this site and its members. I don’t want to get all soft on you guys, but I really couldn’t have done any of this without you all. I’m 100% positive that had it not been for CC, my application would have went straight into the rejection pile after reading the first paragraph for my common app essay (that’s assuming that I would have found out about ILR without CC, of course.)
Rejection will be a disappointment if it occurs but I’m still proud of myself for taking the initiative to apply to such a prestigious school and mitigating my shortcomings through essays, ECs and great LORs.

And TFN, my interview is on Tuesday at 2:30. To my knowledge, my information still hasn’t been forwarded for review because of two documents which they haven’t checked off, so no, its not necessary.

CALS doesn’t allow interviews. (Still really confident in myself though.) And last time I checked, CC was the first college ‘discussion board’ to come up on google (that’s how I found it back in the day, lol.)

But yes, I can also see that comparison. Pretty much everyone who was on the CC threads consistently for the fall transfer talks got in for the fall semester. I think it has a nice quality of dedication to really wanting to get into Cornell in particular. And those who didn’t get in got GTs (though I can’t take a GT…spending another semester here after this one would mean two gym classes and tons of filler courses that won’t transfer. That would suck.)

My community college has like, nothing to do. Therefore my ECs are lacking extreme (but I work 20-24 hours a week at Target on top of schoolwork, so Cathy said that pretty much covers it. She said the admissions council understands how community college kids can’t really do much else besides school, driving, and work so they factor that in to whether or not they’re accepted.)

Azuze: “…getting into Cornell opposed to some other school (what other school…?)”

My school has no ECs (too small to). We have no time to do ECs, either, or at least Freshman year, we didn’t, because RISD has the highest freshmen work hours out of all undergrad schools =x.

Admissions probably won’t know that. But going to art school is pretty much like one big extracurricular anyway -_-" lol. I could’ve just joined an art club, but noooo.

Anyway, I heard of college confidential when I was applying for colleges during high school, but didn’t really use it because back then I wasn’t paranoid and was pretty confident that I was going to get in to at least a few of my schools.

water, you can take GT and work or travel instead of taking classes. if i’m given GT, there is no way that i’ll be taking classes unless i absolutely have to, but of course, ideally i’ll be accepted for spring. i’ve been obsessively checking my self-service page waiting for that “check your decision” button to appear. i’m completely neurotic and obsessed haha

and incase anyone was wondering, boyfriend and i are back together which means more cornell trips. so far, 2 of them in november and then i’ll probably go get him in december for winter break. if anyone wants to come to any of them, let me know either on here or via PM and i’d be happy to have a road buddy!

ironic, same, I keep doing that even though I know it’s way too early for them to be doing that xD…if I’m given GT, I’m going to drop out of RISD and take community college classes in New York…is that allowed? I mean, I feel like it would be better to take classes with transferable credits than just take more art credits lol.

And congrats on getting back together, I wish I could go up to Ithaca that much to see my boyfriend >_>. I’m actually kind of glad I didn’t end up going to my alternative choice to RISD (Northwestern Univ) because then I wouldn’t even be on the east coast anymore, and then I wouldn’t even come home for vacations.

Wait, so there’s a “check your decision” button? So once this button appears, I can check my definite decision without having to wait for the acceptance/rejection letter?

Also, if someone is applying to grad school, they may want to continue to take classes during their deferral period. I’d continue to take classes since I’m applying to law school and taking time off without a good excuse generally isn’t a good idea.

It’s good to hear that you and your bf are back together, Ironic.

If you get a GT, they’d definitely let you take community college classes. I’d double check with the school dean, but I don’t see why not.

I probably wouldn’t be allowed to take a semester off…gah, really hoping I just get in right away. It’s torture in this town without my friends around, sure I meet some new people but they’re all either young or way older…I need my peers :X

Congrats, ironic! Haha, east, I don’t think there’s a check decision button specifically, I think it changes to ‘continue to your application result’ or something such as that. But no, I remember people saying that option appeared last spring, but when they clicked it it didn’t have the result yet. You’ll get either an e-mail acceptance or the letter in the mail.

Anyone considering rushing? My mom is absolutely dead set against it. They don’t want my grades to suffer, I understand that, but I’m debating how to go about doing this: rush and tell them and just deal with it, or rush and don’t tell them, give them my midterm grades and be like ‘oh btw, i’m rocking this 3.4 with two sports clubs, whilst being on the student transfer committee and umm oh yeah, I’m in a frat.’

i’m in a fraternity right now (Sigma Alpha Epsilon) and that doesn’t affect my grade at all (gpa 3.88). i honestly think that by joining a fraternity, it opens up a lot of doors for u. u get to meet new and awesome people, opportunities to do so many volunteerings and many other helpful things. This is actually one of the best decisions i’ve ever made. …but then again, it depends. some people just turn into a party animal lol. I do love to party but i know my limit so yea…it works out well for me

there are SO many different frats/sororities at cornell though. you could easily join one that’s more academic-focused and network a lot, or you can join one that’s more inclined to party. it just depends on you, but you can explain to your parents that not all frats are about alcohol and stuff like that.

fun fact: all the frat/sorority houses used to be movie stars’ houses while they filmed silent movies in ithaca :)

and thanks guys. i’m really happy that we got back together i feel complete again. i know how cheesey that sounds haha but it’s completely true

I might’ve actually joined a sorority if I had gone to an academic univ. But now I feel it’s too late, plus being in a sorority kind of forms your social life when I think I already have an idea of what I want mine to be like. Also, (no offense to any girls on this thread and to the displeasure of my boyfriend), too much estrogen and I go nuts. All of my good friends in high school were guys, save for one or two. I just connect much more easily with guys.

Indeed, ideally none of us will get GT =P but it’s certainly better than outright rejection.

I just realized that pretty much everybody is a NY resident on this thread…whereas I’m not…I heard NY residents have better chances at Cornell since it’s funded by the state althou it’s private. Basically I just found out another reason to be depressed lol

Water, I got a question for ya. Did you apply for another major for your second chance on Common App? I know your primary is communication as mine, but what’s next? I chose sociology.
