Who's applying for Spring transfer 10'-Cornell?

I wanted to do that! boo!

On the self-service:

"Cornell is currently receiving a very large volume of application materials.

We are devoting our efforts toward getting early decision applications processed and sent to selection committees for review. At this time, we are unable to respond to phone calls or email inquiries about application materials. Additionally, our online application status system has been temporarily turned off to allow us to devote our time to processing applications.

If you have sent application materials, please do not send duplicate copies. If you applied early decision, we will notify you in mid-November if we are missing materials from your application and will provide you with an opportunity to submit those materials. If you are a regular decision applicant, you can resume tracking your materials when we turn the online application status system back on in mid-November.

Thank you for your patience and understanding."

AHHH WHAT? It’s getting turned back on in Mid-November D=?!

@ Azu:

Yeah, I just saw the same thing!

I wonder if that affects our decision though. Maybe we’ll still get them earlier via mail or we’ll have a check application status button come up for transfers? Still, I was pretty sure that we might start getting them as early as next week, and then this comes up.

Hmm…

Az,

Our applications are handled by a completely different office than the freshman admissions. I really don’t think it means we will find out after mid-november or that they have pushed the deadline a little bit further. The message seems to only apply for Freshman applicants. Maybe they’ll send notification now through email and snail mail. I think that as soon as our decision are online they’ll only turn the service on for transfer applicants. Only 5 days left for november!! aaah!!

Az: you just HAD to post the link to that thread on the last spring transfers! Haha, it was killing me reading how many of them got rejected…then again, most of them went for CAS which is tough pickings for spring transfers. We have mostly ILR and CALS here. Plus our group here, despite having way more views on the thread, has considerably less people checking in and posting. I like our little group :]

And your plan B sounds excellent; I applied for SUNY schools my senior year of high school and when my parents said ‘well if you really want to go to Cornell, why not just wait?’ I ended up just commuting for a year. Then I got in for the fall and I was so psyched (they just can’t take that away from me…I must get in again! rawr.) If you don’t like art school, it only makes sense (and would probably get you a much greater shot at getting in for next fall, should you not get in this time around) to take a semester at a CC. This would show more of a transition. I still have high confidence for you for this time around, though! I think your experience makes you unique for Cornell.

Riley, if we here before my picked date of the 15th, I’ll award you the win XD

Never have I wanted Halloween to be gone this much. I guess the self-service being off for awhile means they won’t mind if my midterm grades don’t end up getting there in time :P. Though they will anyway, I’m collecting all four tomorrow and sending it out immediately. Should be in the office before Saturday.

None of us should technically hear before the others, right? I mean, it’s rolling yeah, but we’re not early decision (because that’s only freshman). The only differences being maybe some of us might get the letter in the mail a few days earlier if you applied early Sept. as opposed to later in the month (like me ;___; ).

Nov.Em.Ber. Get here alreadyyyyyy…I can’t see why they would take another entire month to release our decisions. It doesn’t make much sense if the transfer ad-coms only have this small pool to go through and pushed the deadline up. We’ve gotta find out soon :-]

So I guess if we all want to face a little dose of reality, and since Az brought it up with her talk of attending a CC, what are everyone’s plans for if you don’t get accepted or if you get a GT for fall?

If I get a GT, I’ll just be stuck at my CC for one more semester. I’ll have to take two gym classes (so ridiculous…) to ‘graduate’ under their standards. Same thing goes for if I don’t get in at all. Except if I just get rejected, I’ll end up staying here for spring, then applying to Cornell again as well as I’m thinking 3 other schools for fall. I never intended on staying the ‘full’ two years at a CC…when I told my parents I would do it for Cornell, they kept referencing things as if I wouldn’t be leaving until fall of '10. But I swear if I’m stuck here from Jan-May again, I’m working overtime and doing endless things with friends from nearby schools, because I refuse to still feel like I’m stuck in high school.

i spoke with kathy from CALS this morning regarding today’s change on the application portal. she told me that all transfer applicants had this change in their portals. she also confirmed that CALS decisions will be released in the middle of november. they will be released on the portal. i am more anxious then ever before. if i am not accepted this time, i’ll look into cornell’s grad schools. the admin knew my voice and asked for my name. when I told her, she said “yes, yes, yes…” with a very cheerful tone. should i read into this or ignore it?

Well ignore my gigantic post, that’s great! Guess my target date of finding out if we get in looks good to go, haha. I might just try and stay away from college conf. for the next two weeks, then come back when we’re all biting our nails and rocking in fettle position by the mailbox. lol.

Calpoly: what admin, Cathy? Or the woman who answered the phone? Haha, I don’t know how I would take that kind of an answer either. It might make more sense if you’ve been calling quite often to ask questions and find things out (have you?) Because then it’s like you’re one of the ‘regulars’ calling in.

And that sounds good too; if for some reason I get denied from Cornell for spring then AGAIN in fall, I’ll probably end up at Siena or U-Rhode Island (don’t ask, it’s a personal preference lol) then just try to get into Weill Cornell for graduate sciences. Or some other grad school at Cornell. I’m sure they have more NYC locations as well (the only reason I say that is because my friend who goes to Siena who had the GT to ILR but turned it down because he wants to be medicine (run on sentence here much?) is looking into going to Weill Medical. He needs to keep his grades up but if he does, we really wanna live in an apartment or near each other. If not, I wouldn’t mind spending some extra time in good ol’ Ithaca ^^)

Are the midterm reports really that important? Will they still give out offers if they haven’t received it since my profs are refusing to give me a grade until after the deadline. I am kind of getting worried. I want to know about my decision the same time you guys do.

^—I actually don’t think they are. Especially after this announcement that stuff won’t be able to be checked up on until mid-November for all of us, freshman and transfers included. Which means they wouldn’t front you for not having them in on time (besides, whoever heard of an applicant being denied because their midterm grades arrived a week late?)

Either way, I should still be getting all of mine tomorrow. Hopefully you can get yours mailed pronto next week, TFN.

I’m getting emails from Syracuse University that’re basically welcoming me…I’m not from the north and not really sure about this university? Is Syracuse a good university? Not that I will apply but is it?

my sister went to syracuse, its a huge school, pretty respectable as a university. nothing crazy like cornell tho

Syracuse is a great school. Not as selective as Cornell, but decently (probably more kind to transfers). It has a great communications dept, I almost applied. Good city too, nice school.

But…Cornell owns. lol.

right…Cornell pwns every other school for this matter lol

my best friend goes to syracuse for architecture and she loves it, but she says the people are really snobby. i went to visit her the last time i was up at cornell because it’s pretty close and i didn’t really get that feel, but i’m sure it’s different when you’re there all the time. this application portal thing is driving me insane. i definitely want to hear. starting next week i will probably be obsessively checking the mail and hunting down my mail man. if i get anything in the mail from cornell while i’m in class, i’ll have to tell my brothers/mother not to let me know until i get home because if they say i got a small envelope i’ll cry in front of thousands of people at my school which won’t be good. ahhhh so nervous.

and agreed with valvsu. cornell > everything else.

Wow… Accepted to CALS. Received a big envelope in the mail today, and I am in California. Third time is the charm?

are you for real?

congrats! that’s amazing and also making me shake violently.

ARE YOU FO REALZ.

CALS is sending out already?! That means I have to stress out and check my mail box every single day from now on. When did you have all of your app materials in?

ALSO IF YOU ARE FO REALZ THEN CONGRATULATIONS AND I ENVY YOU <3

ironic: shaking violently indeed.

Really, already? You can’t be serious.

Congratualtions!

i second azu’s questions about the timing of your materials being sent. also, what are your stats???
