Who's applying for Spring transfer 10'-Cornell?

Thanks to everyone who posted a response to " The Acceptance Game". As leader of the game, I will cancel the voting and make everyone a winner. Because we are all winners here! lol! Also great responses by the way. Reading them makes me see how bad each of us want this. Lets hope we all get that shinny package in the mail with the Cornell logo.

i’m gonna be a noob again. which cornell colleges have GTs, and how much od they skew the transfer rates/

and jemma, your stats are really good, you have a lot of very focused classes. Good luck!

TFN: let me know how some of them work for ya ;-)

melon: Good question, I have no idea. I wonder if they set aside a particular number of slots for spring transfer and then say ‘okay subtract the number of GTs from that’. I don’t think that’s how it goes, though, because some GTs obviously change their mind, don’t take the GT, reapply to a different school, or can’t go because of other circumstances.

I’d say GTs are separate in the equation of acceptances. I know CALS, ILR, Ecology(?) do GTs, that might be it.

ATTENTION: for all attending transfer day and bringing their nice cameras!

I was thinking if we can create a nice big bank of transfer day pictures. This would be so helpful for the people who cannot attend transfer day (myself). We can either post them here in the forum or maybe on a service like flickr.

Things to post:

Pictures of classrooms and buildings

Profs

Ian (lol!)

Some nice scenery (like the big hill)

General transfer day activity

I think you guys get the point. So I am going to need some brave souls to volunteer to post pictures? Who is it going to be? Brandnew come on, I know you love pictures. lol!

^—OMG if you guys can somehow get a tour INSIDE some of the rooms, definitely definitely definitely snag or sneak some pictures. There are absolutely no pictures of most Cornell dorms anywhere online, except my friends mini-pics who transferred in fall from facebook. I’d like to know how much space I’m looking at given a single vs. double situation on west campus. That is my mission to all of you!!

Oh here’s the stats on the pplz who applied for last spring and REPORTED their result, because I have no life and read like 20 pages on that thread. I was really pulling for brooklyngirl…she didn’t get in. :frowning: I think she was in my group for fall transfers, cant remember who she really is.

((Key: 2-3 (2 being in, 3 being rejected) ))
CAS
3-4
CALS
1-1
ILR
2-2
Ecology
1-0
Hotel (except this one, I’m counting some girl saying ‘my two friends got in too!’
3-0

Some guy also said these were acceptance stats for '08 spring ILR applicants.

39 applied, 30 accepted, 26 enrolled, (no '07?), 22/14/13 in '06, 28/21/21 in '05

But Brooklyngirl said when she spoke to Ian for the stats on spring '09, they accepted only 14 students (which I find ridiculous)

Although I don’t trust nor feel comfortable with those results reported considering a lot of people who didn’t get in probably shied away from the forum and didn’t report.

Hi all,

My names Troy, I just stumbled across your forum. From what I read it doesn’t seem like you guys are too excited about all the new people popping up; however, I can assure you I’m not much competition for most people.

For one I am applying to the Hotel School (which it doesn’t look like many of you are, correct?). Secondly my stats are a joke, I have great recs, I’m fairly comfortable with my essays, my internships are good and my interviewer told me he would recommend me for admission, but my stats are a joke.

Here they are anyway though:

Current College: American University (Washington D.C.)
Sophomore Double Major: Business/International Relations
College GPA: 3.15
HS GPA: 3.5
Never took ACTS or SATS so I did not submit them
Current Grades: 17 credits, all “A”s except one “B+”
Letters of Rec: I sent in two, one from a Senator and another from my English professor.

Some Work experience I’ve had:

Worked a full time internship as a Legislative Aid to a State Senator in Colorado after I graduated early from high school, 5 months 40 hours/week
Bob McDonnell for Governor, Intern (Over last summer)
Various Work Study Positions (I am currently working in the Office of the University Architect)
Pelican Lakes Country Club 3 years
Sushi Bar 1 year

Some other ECS:

Exchange program to Moriya Japan
Varsity: golf, wrestling. Also an avid snowboarder
Various clubs
NYLC, GYLC
University College Economics Program

I know from this it doesn’t seem like I’m a great fit for the Hotel School but from my essays and my interview I feel confident they will see that I am in-fact a good fit.
Anyways, I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself to the transfer community, feel free to find me on Facebook. Good luck to you all!

-Troy

LOL yes, let what happened to me be a lesson to all of you hahahah…

Ok I may virtual hug melon and water =] You know what!? virtual hug to both of you lol Thanks you guys!! Your vote of confidence means the world to me… Specially now, when its nearly the end. Hopefully, I do get in!!

Water- hahaha nop I know no student at my university who are transferring to Cornell. Most of the students who want to transfer, want to transfer to Florida or Cali. They choose those states simply because of the warm weather which they are soo used too. The coldest temperature up till now in PR has been 83 lol I, however, love love cold weather and all I want to do when I get to Ithaca is participate in a snow fight, make snow angels, and sing Frank Sinatra’s version of Let it Snow lol I do hope being from PR helps my chances I stated that I was from PR in all of my essays lol

Wishing all the luck to all of us. I sincerely want everybody to get in! We have form such a nice group  I can’t bear the thought that we won’t be all cornellian for Spring :(

TFN, That’s a grt idea!!! I second the motion =)

Wow the stats for CAS makes me feel uneasy :(

tm307, don’t beat yourself up just yet. Relax, in this whole AO games, theres nothing written in stone. They love to throw us some curveballs and u just might be that one curveball  Aside from ur gpa, I think your good. :)

I’m off to watch FRIENDS so I can calm down lol My best remedie :D

Hey, Troy, welcome! You’re actually our first hotely, so we don’t mind you joining in the fun haha. It’s a good thing to see someone so confident too. I hope you can get in. Check out the FB group for anyone that hasn’t seen/joined it yet: (even if you don’t get in or have doubts, just join the group! We can still help you guys apply for a diff. semester and give you inside tips should you be rejected or have a GT till Fall!)

[Cornell Spring 2010 Transfers | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)

waterdept- thanks, how could i forget the dorms. I am dying to see them also. If you guys could take some pics’s of the baker dorms that would be awesome!

I will let you know how the tips worked.

Also does anyone know which is the nicest dorm to stay in for upper years or us transfers?

Hey all.

Would you three hate me if I asked to get into the mix now? I have been lurking the Cornell subsection for years (or at least it seems like years ::expressionless: ), but I just found this thread yesterday.

I hope not because all of you seem awesome and I would love to join the camaraderie :)

West Campus by far is the best location for all of us. It’s close to the Ag square and (I think) Engineering, good location somewhat near collegetown, and it’s where they stick the majority of transfers. A good amount of spots should open up for us there too since so many students travel abroad, transfer, get apartments, etc.

Hahaha, MDG the only reason we’re expressing slight hate of the n00bs is because you guys didn’t speak up earlier. Now, during crunch time for CALS decisions, we’re starting to get more competition and we don’t like it.

But that aside, of course we welcome more! What school/major are you applying to (assuming you definitely are a spring '10 transfer)?

((Now that I think about it, no idea why this thread is in transfer area rather than the Cornell section…I blame Viola for the initial posting lol))

Water,

I guess I will have to take my freshman hazing with pride ;)

I am, in fact, a spring '10 transfer. I am afraid to post my school/major. I have an inkling that I will be bombarded with rotten, virtual tomatoes. Is there any truth to this thought?

I am glad you agree with me that it seems logical for this post to be in Cornell. I would have definitely been involved from the beginning! Thanks a lot Viola >:-0 … just kidding. just kidding.

Nah, you’re fine, it’s better you tell us where you applied so we know what competitive group to stick you with.

Unless you’re CALS Comm. In which case, prepare to be tomato’d and then some.

Well as long as you arent CAS Government (which I getting a feeling that you are, just because its my lucky day) you are totally welcomed to post it. lol WE all promise to put the the virtual rotten tomatoes away and save them for some other newbie  lol Please tell us, we won’t bite hahahah

All right. I applied ILR (covers face with arms).

I’ll let east throw the tomatoes then, hehe. Welcome aboard! The facebook group link is listed up above, join up if you haven’t.

What school are you coming from and what year are you (fresh/soph/junior?)

i am surprised at the fact that only 2 people on CC last year applied to CALS last semester…coz i mean…CALS is the biggest dpt…

points at ILRies HAHAHAHAHA

j.k

CAS is the biggest department. Unfortunately :(

Well yeah, jemma, CAS is the biggest, but it’s also the most competitive (most applicants, low on slots).

CALS and ILR are also the best for accepting, so it’s weird that it’s just me, valvsu, and Azu (correct me if I’m missing someone, except the 2 that got in.)
