ill go ahead and answer my own question: April 1st.

Atlantia, yeah, it's not a "likely" letter. I know I'm not the type to get likely in, and since the form is addressed as "To: Applicants to Middlebury" it's wide-spread, generic and a likely letter would be "Dear Izzy, Upon reviewing your application we would like to tell you you are the type of student person Middlebury is looking for" or something or other.

And yes, lecorbeau...the insanity will stop April 1st, but then, hopefully we'll have decisions to make which will make our heads spin!

I received both the "Criteria" letter and the "Financial Aid" letter. I was happy that Middlebury sent out something that went into depth on how they evaluate individual applicants; it sort of quelled my anxiety a bit, though - I'm still extremely nervous.

It makes me nervous, though...if I get rejected, I'll think I wasn't their ideal candidate. Heck, reading that letter, I didn't think I was half what they wanted!

well, i got another letter today. actually, it was to my parents. i'm sure you've all gotten it too... it made me even more freaked out than the last one. it seems that there are just too many good candidates and basically we should just be shocked if we get in and expect to be denied no matter how qualified we are... not that i think i should get in anyway, but still. sigh

Nope, haven't got that yet. What was in the letter?

Yeah I got the same letter. Before seeing your post, I kinda thought the letter was intended to soften the blow of my looming rejection...

Well at least I can say....aren't you guys thankful we're not applying to Middlebury/any elite LAC ten years from now, given the progressive competitiveness of getting into a darn school!

My mom was a B/C student in high school and got into UCLA. My, how the times have changed.

yeah it's crazy. our kids are going to have to be total losers throughout high school to have any chance. hah.

I got a likely letter from Middlebury the other day!

I'm quite psyched.

So, because I want to procrastinate... My stats:

SAT I: 800 Critical Reading, 800 Writing, 660 Math (I can't count, honestly)
SAT IIs: 800 Spanish, 770 U.S. History, 740 Literature
Rank: 1 out of 124
APs: AP Scholar with Distinction; by the end of the year, I'll have completed eleven courses.
Teacher Recs: We're not allowed to see them, but I assume they were stellar. Pre-slacker days, I was a favorite.
Counselor Rec: Again, we're not allowed to read recommendations. Nevertheless, I hope it was pretty good.
Interview: Excellent.
Extracurriculars: I'm a member of a number of clubs, and I'm captain of the school's Knowledge Bowl team, as well as Chief Editor and co-founder of the school's newspaper. I do a lot of swimming in my free time.
Hook: I'm passionate about journalism-- I was an intern at La Prensa, my country's largest newspaper, and I worked with a USA Today correspondent on a feature story about Daniel Ortega. I'm currently hammering out a story on female convicts, again for La Prensa.
Essays: I wrote one about being an odd duckling in my AP English Lit. class (I was a fourteen-year-old sophomore who had been accelerated into a previously all-senior class.) The other essay was about my experiences with the USA Today correspondent-- following Ortega's campaign trail, the interview itself, etc. My father was jailed by Ortega during the Sandinista regime, so meeting Ortega was a strong emotional and intellectual experience.
Location: In case it wasn't obvious-- Managua, Nicaragua, of Iran-Contra infamy.
Other Thoughts: I have a really wry sense of humor, and I can be obnoxiously cheery.

(I know I´ve reused this post, but... I´m lazy. I´m sorry, I really am.)

has anyone else gotten likely letters? i got those letters you guys were talking about..the "please don't be sad if you don't get in" ones...but does everyone that was accepted get a likely letter? honestly...i don't even really know what a likely letter is. i mean i can pretty much guess but today was the first time i had even heard of anything like that. i guess the schools my friends applied to (in state) took a less complicated approach to admissions than most of these other schools. basically i've never been this anxious about anything in my entire life, mainly because no one else hear has even heard of any of the schools i applied to.

jessi: good luck to you applying out of state to quality schools your friends never heard of and for being smart enough to find Middlebury. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. I know that you are anxious - as I am for my son - but it's that anxiousness, in part, that makes it such a rewarding experince if and when you get in.

Could someone post what the likely letter says?

-Deion S.

It wasn´t a generic likely letter, although it did say, "Don´t worry, it´s very likely you´ll be offered admission in March," etc. Otherwise, it was really specific, mentioning a few of my activities and even quoting my teacher recs.

thanks, that mean's a lot. it's scary, but i know i did the best i could in high school without turning myself into a robot. so if i don't get in places, it just wasn't meant to be.

wow that likely letter sounds amazing. congratulations! slkdafsfj. i hate waiting.

S received his likely letter on 3/6; same day as the letter to parents re: Feb. admissions. The letter couldn't have been nicer and was very personalized, making reference to his essays, activites, etc. Handwritten note from the Dean of Adm as well. He was psyched as Midd has been one of his top choices for a loooooong time.

i haven't gotten any of these letters you guys are talking about!!!! i was deferred ed into reg, but i guess they just kept me hanging in case no one else came along. midd's my first choice. pffffft. i wish april 1 would just come and then at least i'll know one way or another.
