Who's applying this year?

Basically every other board has a thread like this, and the Tufts forum seems completely soiled with "What are my Chances?" threads. We need to foster a better atmosphere, and since I feel like putting off my AP Bio homework, I'll take the first step...

I'm John, from upstate New York. I play the trumpet and piano, I'm the co-president of my school's Peer Leadership club (it's a chem free volunteer organization), I have a weird obsession with food from Taco Bell, my favorite author is John Steinbeck, and I find MTV's MADE oddly addicting at the moment. Also, I'll either apply to Tufts ED II or RD. Also applying to Princeton ED, Cornell, Northwestern, Rochester, Boston College, and SUNY-Buffalo honors program...

let the bonding commence...

Alrighty..Hi John and other aspiring Jumbos
I am David, from West Michigan. I am the executive president of our student council, I like to run, and I hate the Physics homework I am working on. I too love the amazing tastes of T-bell, my favorite author is Ernest Hemingway( or if I may say this on this site, John Grisham), I am currently addicted to Laguna Beach, I know it's fake, but I like it. The school I am applying to are Hope College, Brown University, Tufts ED II, and Trinity (CT). Oh yeah, I impulsely choose the screenname brownorbust, I wish it had been tuftsorbust now that I have researched more.

Hmm...I'm Ashley, from the Dallas area. I'm active in French NHS and don't understand AP Physics AT ALL, but I'm making an A. I don't watch a ton of TV (or do I?), but when I do it's Grey's Anatomy, House, Family Guy, or reruns of Friends. I'm absurdly loyal to Fiona Apple, even when she drops off the radar for six years at a time, and I have a terrible habit of buying more books than I can ever possibly read. After college, I want to go to med school and become either a neonatalogist or a psychiatrist. I'm also applying to NYU, Columbia, Barnard, Brandeis, Boston U., Wesleyan, McGill, and Rutgers. I'm really interested in Tufts because they let psychology majors specialize in clinical psych, and they also have a child development minor.

awwww what a cute thread! I'm not applying, I'm actually HERE at Tufts right now, but i'll definitely drop in every once in a while and try to answer your questions as best as I can :-D

Hey guys, I'm Gabrielle from Los Angeles. I am founder and co-president of the community service club at my school, and I'm also the Senior Class Community Service Rep. I have an obsession with presidents and politics. I wish I had lived in the sixties because it was such a turbulent, yet exciting time to be alive, with everything constantly changing. My favorite band is the Beatles, hands down. Some of my favorite movies include: A Hard Day's Night (The Beatles), Duck Soup (Marx Brothers), Rebel Without a Cause (James Dean), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (Jimmy Stewart), Nightmare Before Christimas (Jack Skellington), and Motorcycle Diaries (Gael Garc

Hey I'm Sam and live in suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. I'm originally from South Korea and moved here 7 years ago. I volunteer through korean and spanish communities in my area...and I am treasurer of my schools NHS chapter, vice-president of Habitat for Humanity, and head tutor for Spanish HS. In my spare time I play acoustic guitar either by myself or in my band at church...and sometimes write my own songs too. My peculiar hobby is watching korean dramas/soap operas and writing critiques on them...(don't criticize, be nice)

Right now I do not know what I want to be yet but plan to major in international relations or urban studies(minor at Tufts, unfortunately...) Hopefully Tufts will prepare me to choose the right career path and succeed...

Hi I'm Jeff.

I live in Quincy, MA. (About 45 min drive from Tufts) Asian. Volunteer heavily. I enjoy running, swimming and biking; love the sport that combines all three. I enjoy reading and Government.

I am a moderate leaning left. However on certain issues I do sway right.

I enjoy Track and intend to be putting some points for the Jumbos in Winter/Spring Track meets .

Also want to major in IR or Medical. I'm undecided.

cool... this thread is finally starting to gain some momentum. The other day I told my friend from school I was applying to Tufts, and he had actually heard of it [gasp]. It was refreshing.

LOL John...I know how it feels. I lived in a small town, and I'm not like bragging or anything, but I had some accomplishments and as a result was known around my town for them. So when people would ask where I was headed this year, I'd say "Tufts!" and they'd be like "Oh...is that like...Bergen Community College?" LOL but you'll find that if you're talking to professionals, they've always heard of Tufts

aww Gabrielle - i LOVE James Dean, in East of Eden too. I have a poster of him up in my beautiful enormous room haha

haha, bluirinka. I looked at the main Tufts board and you were the most recent poster on like 90% of the threads... I hope that if I get into/go to Tufts I'll be as happy about it as seem to be!

Hey guys,

I'm Ben, I live in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and I applied ED I to Tufts. I'm President of Debate, VP of Law Club, Co-Capt. of Mock Trial, and obviously have a real passion for politics. I want to double-major in poli sci and intl relations, maybe minor in History. I really would love to go to Tufts, it seems like the perfect place for me. I know what you guys are talking about with the no one knowing what it is thing, but it's alright, anyone who would be "hiring" us will know, and that's all that matters. Good luck too all of you!

Oh, and a quick rundown of the other schools I applied to: Boston College (EA), GW, Tulane (EA), Catholic U, U of Richmond, Wake Forest, BU, Brandeis, American U :)

hey everybody-

I'm Julia, from Vermont. I may be applying ED II, haven't yet decided. I'm a writer and a musician and (whenever possible) a world traveler. Tufts' International Relations major contains within it more or less every course I could ever imagine wanting to take in college, which is, needless to say, rather incredible. I love the campus, the atmosphere, the food, etc. etc. I wish Tufts was where Harvard is, as Medford definitely lacks when compared to Cambridge, but it's only 2 T stops away, so no worries. Hey bluirinka, another minor concern: I've heard that Tufts has really lame team spirit, as in no one ever goes to sports games or what have you. Do you find this to be so? It's not a huge deal, but I love being part of that giant cheering home team crowd.

Let's see, what else. I love music, especially classic rock (Zeppelin, the Dead, the Stones, Tom Petty, the Who, Pink Floyd, etc.), jazz, and sort of modern-alternative-underground soft rock (Dispatch, Guster, Zox, etc.). My favorite movies are The Godfather, Pinero, Casablanca, and Breakfast at Tiffany's. Favorite books: On the Road, Catch-22, Waiting for Godot, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Tarantula, and many more. I'd like to work for National Geographic after college, but my goals change every few months, so who knows.

lovely to meet you all!

lol jmarsh/John, what can i say. i love it here; i'm upset that i may have to transfer out against my will :(

hey dharma/Julia! I was kind of saddened by your "Medford < Cambridge" thing, because Davis Square is absolutely AWESOME. It's like a five minute walk away from where I live in South Hall, and a quick Joey ride as well. Davis has tons of great places to eat, cafes to hang out in, and a really excellent movie theater which plays movies that were out a few months ago, but for really really cheap.

As for team spirit? There are some people who are really into supporting our sports teams; i'm right by the football stadium, so when there's a game, we can hear people cheering. But it's not a school-wide thing, no - which is not to suggest that people don't LOOOOVE Tufts, they just aren't necessarily into football enough to go watch the games at 12 in the afternoon on a Saturday, lol. What's sad is that people actually go to BC to watch football games, haha! Although, you will find people who have tons of school spirit and like to show it, so I wouldn't be worried.

!? you have to transfer out? Why?

ugh, sigh...my mom works at Columbia, so I would get free tuition. I like Tufts so much better though

:( That sucks! Does she plan to make you transfer? Or will you hope that you won't get in? :)

ooh this looks like fun!
I'm monica from CT. i like trumpet (yay jmarsh) and tennis and i watch survivor every thursday night at 8!!!!! Go bobby jon! i think i want to major in biology. i like to hang out w/ my friends and bake cookies.
i liked tufts a lot when i stayed overnight and both my parents went there.

I'm Lauren from MD. I love anything computer, math, engineering, or robotics related. I'm on my school's robotics team, in a religious youth group, and i play guitar. I LOVE music (esp. old stuff like bealtes and simon and garfunkel). I also sail, so Tufts is a great choice for that, although I'm not good enough to make the team or anything. I also love chocolate! I'm looking to major in EE, and plan on participating in lots of robotics activities.

I'm applying to Cornell (ED), CMU (ED II), Case Western (EA), Penn state, UIUC, and Mich rolling, and RD: Northwestern, Tufts, UVA, and maybe UC Berkeley, UCLA, and Rochester.

Hi I'm applying this year,
I love Tufts, it's my first choice by far, but my father won't let me apply ED because of financial worries. As in, he doesn't think I'll get financial aid. We're not rich, but I got to a private school, so he basically thinks I'm getting nothing. Anyway, I'm applying RD. I'd really like to get my app in soon so I can get an interview. I live about 45 min. NW of Medford, so the applicant pool around here is heavy.

About me: I'm an artistic roller skater. I race for my high school ski team, but I'm pretty terrible at slalom. I'm the co-president of the Asian-American club. I work part-time as a receptionist at a hair salon. Pretty random set of ec's, I know.

I plan on majoring in bio. I love bio and I'll be pre-med. I'm also kinda interested in Tufts' strength in public health and foreign policy. I'm applying to Tufts, NYU, Columbia, Boston College, BU, Brown, and the accelerated med programs at RPI and George Washington, even if I think I don't have any chance of getting into a combined medical program.

Hope to see you guys there!
(I'm so avoiding writing college essays right now)
