Are EDers going?

Are they only for minorities (non whites)?

i don't know of any spring multicultural weekends, but i went to the fall one, and there were white people and rich azns (the kind who live in newport beach/orange county).

I'm an EW and will be attending Multicultural Weekend in April. Multicultural Weekend is for everyone that has been accepted and applied for financial aid. On the other hand, 25 multi-cultural families (the student and two adults) have the opportunity to stay overnight on the 9th into the 10th of April for the Multicultural Preview Family Program. On 10th, students in the MPFP will join the Multicultural Weekend tour. It is at that point that the parents of the Multicultural Preview have the choice of either returning home or remaining, but not on the Williams campus and at their own expense.

I haven't heard about this upcoming multicultural weekend, but then again I am an EDer and I did go to the fall multicultural event. Is this spring multicultural weekend open to us EDers and/or fall multicultural alums?

I got an invitation to it in my acceptance folder, but I won't be able to make it.

I'm going.

I haven't heard anything about a family multicultural weekend. I got my acceptance package yesterday (YAY!) and it included an invitation to the multicultural weekend on the 9th and 10th all expenses paid... but I don't think my parents were invited.

The multicultural weekend invitations were sent to "a cross section of multicultural students and/or students applying for financial aid"

I'm white... but Jewish... and I applied for financial aid.

Hope that helps!

There might be another envelope (either blue or yellow) with the invitation for your family.

I didn't get one of those blue/yellow envelopes.

I didn't get a blue/yellow envelope either... only the light purple one with the invitation for me. That's ok though, I don't want my parents to go anyway! :P

I don't know if I should tell Williams that I'm coming to Multicultural Weekend if I haven't gotten decisions back from other schools yet... and when April 1st comes around I might decide not to got to Williams... should I still go to Multicultural Weekend? Is anyone else in this same position???

I'm with you on that one. We have to commit to visit by March 21, before I hear from my top choices. I may not want to visit after April 1, but it's a free trip to a place I've never been--and, who knows, I might actually like it. I'm going.

That's what I'm thinking too... hmmm....

hey guys,
Congratulations! It's midterm week at Williams!! (sigh) Anyways, the Multicultural weekend is highly recommended. I went to several of those events last year for other schools, and they really helped me identify the atmosphere of the various colleges. I really think the only way to truly make a decision about what school to attend is to visit...and on the College's tab no less!!

What I'm worried about is that I will skip two days of school to visit Williams and then want to skip more school if another college invites me up to visit for a long weekend. So I guess my question is this... Do you know if any other schools (Harvard, Brown, Amherst, Tufts, or Smith) invite people up for free like Williams does?

From experience, I know that Smith will pay all costs for its STRIDE scholars (who are awarded paid research assistantships in their first two years), and, I think, for multi-cultural admits. They hold their multicultural weekend on the same days as "collaborations" - presentations of student-faculty research, among other reasons so that prospective students can attend, and potentially meet profs they may do research with.

Lauren--chances are you will be accepted to other good schools and at least one of them will offer some sort of paid weekend visit. However, it's important to put everything in perspective--the spring semester of your sr year doesn't matter that much. If missing 6 days intstead of 3 means you'll be able to make a better decision about colleges it's 150% worth it.

wow... so is this the event for admitted students? If you had to register by the 21st, what do we RDerz do?

albert didn't you hear? you're no longer a multicultural student. You get stripped of that 2 months ago..

haha j/k.

Since you went to the fall multicultural weekend you aren't eligible to go again. I haven't received one either nor anyone else I know who has gotten in RD from the fall multicultural weekend. But it's ok, we were blessed to go to one already.

You're absolutely right. I was waiting on other deicisons... and missed the date to tell Williams I wanted to come up there for multicultural weekend... but i'm feeling like williams is my top choice now so i'm regretting not coming up. I have, however, visited the campus on my own so it's not as if they have to convince me to go there... I know how AMAZING it is... :) I'm so excited!!!

Thanks scotty.
