I am considering to study abroad but the minimal standing I must have is a sophomore...does that mean that I can study abroad during the summer after my freshmen year?? who is also doing this?

I'm probably going to apply having junior standing. I'm also thinking of studying abroad during the summer between my junior and senior year (summer '06). I have no idea if you will be considered a sophmore on your application, because I believe you must apply and indicate your level at the time of applying. I think they do this to get an idea about your gpa and academic standing.

Where are you thinking about going?

I am a junior transfer student, but I have kind of a weird situation, and as a result I can stay at Berkeley for three years. Next year (05-06) I am going to study in London, then come back to Berkeley in 06-07 for my third year. I am very excited. Applications are due so soon though (at least for my program).

As far as your situation goes, I have no idea. I know that there are several programs that you just have to be a junior or senior for. You might consult the EAP people about your specific program.

easymack, how will you be able to stay for three years? i am trying to plan my majors so i will possibly be able to stay for three years. i'm a transfer student too.

thanks for your input guys, I'm just a new acceptee who's going to berkeley as a freshmen during fall 05....and I'm just curious about the study abroad program, and how early I can start.

EAP's website has everything you could ever want to know about studying abroad...

It's eap.ucop.edu I believe.

Izzie bear- I can stay for three years because I actually only went to community college for one year. I had so many AP credits that one year of CC and the APs combined made 60 credits and I completed the IGETC. But now that I am at Cal, I have the option of counting (or not counting) my AP units towards the unit ceiling. And since I cant use APs for major prereqs anyways, I think I won't count them. So when I start in the Fall I'll have 34 units of actual credit, not counting my APs. Thats a long story.

And for those who are curious: I'm going to Göttingen for a year in Germany -- I'll pop in periodically and let you know how it is.

I have my study abroad thing pretty much planned out (not officially, though). I'm going to University College, Maastricht University in the Netherlands for fall semester of sophomore year (I'm gonna be a freshman this year). I really wanted to study at the London School of Economics, but they took that program away for some reason. I would have been happy with the University of London (or King's College, or Imperial College), but all of UK's programs are one-year long, and I only wan't a semester. I also wanted a program that allows sophomores, since I can't do it junior year because I'll be trying to get into the UCDC program then. That only left me like seven options, and when I eliminated those that had strict language requirements (and those which had their courses taught in a non-English language), I came up with Ghana and the Netherlands. I chose the Netherlands, and I hope to finalize my plans this semester at Cal.

I plan to study in France, maybe Paris. But I don't know anything about French. I'll study French1-5 in the next two years.
