Who's heard back?

I think this is a really busy time of year for MSU because a lot of students apply around December along with people being off for the holidays.

That’s what I’m hoping - thanks.

"Financial Aid from MSU

Hi, I am a recently accepted Michigan State applicant from New York. I was wondering what sort of financial aid I could expect to get.
For Merit
-3.0 gpa
-25 ACT, 22 English, 22 Math, 32 Reading, and 23 Science
-I plan to be a pre-law major

For Need
I am curious what kind of aid other people from New York have gotten in the past, I am also a double legacy, wondering if that will make a difference.

I really want to go here, it is my first choice institution but tuition for out of state students is too much for my family to handle. Is it probable for me to expect to go here?

I pasted the above from another topic. Again, I am curious why this person would be accepted and other students are waitlisted or denied with similiar or better stats?

Does Admission Counselors have the last say? Aren’t there guidelines that they must all follow for consistency?

^ Ok, I’ll ask again. When did she apply?

And honestly, you can’t take people’s words for gold on here. I’m not saying she’s lying, but there might be more to it. Plus, they want to increase their geographic diversity so OOS students might have a better or worse chance of getting in than others.

My daughter applied just before 11/1. Her packet was complete by 11/13.

Did she have an upward trend to her grades or a downward trend? Do you know her class rank?

Look, there are any number of reasons why she was deferred. You’re acting as though she got rejected. MANY applicants get deferred until they see 7th semester grades- especially if they have a lower GPA (which she does by MSU standards) just to make sure that there is an upward trend. If she does well, then I’m almost positive she’ll be admitted.

MSU has a holistic application process. If you want an admission process that is “the same for all applicants” then I suggest you look at schools where they admit primarily on a points system (ie X number of points for GPA and Y for scores). MSU does not admit this way. I honestly can’t think of any colleges in Michigan that admit like this though.

Just curious, when they review your application, does the application status say something like “application being review” on their admission portal site?

^^
Yes, it does.

D’s status changed today - it now says ‘Congratulations! You have been offered admission’.

Best of luck to those waiting - hope you hear good news soon!
