Just wondering out of curiousity! I'll see you in the fall- can't wait!

Go Trojans,
It is not a good idea to check out sorority chapters from a guy's point of view. They have no idea about recruitment, scholarship goals and sisterhood.
This is information from the local newspaper. In 2005-2006 Tri Delta was awarded the Most Outstanding Sorority. In 2006-2007 Delta Gamma was awarded Most Outstanding Sorority. Kappa was on probation in 2007. I do not know who was awarded Most Outstanding in 2007-2008. Sigma Delta Tau will be recruiting this fall as well.
Recruitment is a mutual choice. At SC references are really needed. There are usually Panhellenic workshops/teas/receptions held in larger towns which give much information about the process. A place to find Panhellenic workshop information is on a Panhellenic site or Greek Chat. There are long threads about all topics concerning recruitment.
A unique ceremony at SC is Presents. It is in October. A long white dress will be needed for this occasion. All the new members wear a white gown. Many girls borrow them from women in the chapter, if you are on a budget.
Be sure to check out the chapter websites. You will see photos of women in the chapters and the large role of philanthropy in current sorority life.
If you have any general questions please PM me.

i'm thinking that i'm going to. but idk. i need more info about it and what not.

Sorority chapters at SC are geographically, racially and religiously diverse. There are ten chapters.

I think I'll rush at least, a bunch of people on here have said it's a good way to meet people even if i end up deciding it isn't for me.

Georgia Girl: I'm not sure on the parameters of your knowledge of the greek system, but you seem to know a lot. I have a friend in Pi Phi, would this help me get in or does it not matter in the long run?

im considerin rushin but wat do u do exactly in the sororities?
like wat bondin things? wat r most of the ppl like, etc?

Re: Sorority Recruitment (Rush)
Selection of members is mutual. Each woman will visit all the chapters at first. Then the process proceeds by the chapters inviting fewer and fewer girls to return and the women drop chapters by ranking them at the bottom of their list. The number of invitations is set by Panhellenic.
Lewis 208,
It is nice to know a member in a chapter. This does NOT guarantee you a bid. Visit all the chapter houses. Meet the women. What is their philanthropy? Ask yourself if you would feel comfortable with these members day after day. Is there an academic support system to assist you as you become accustomed to college level demands? Do the women have a good mix of social and sisterhood activities?
My best advice is to pay little attention to other's opinions. Choose a group which is the best fit for YOU. At the same time the chapters will try to select women who feel would fit in their particular sisterhood. Keep in mind once initiated this is membership for a lifetime. It is not similar to joining a high school club. Alumnae play an important role as advisors and mentors.
After graduation if you join a firm/business across the country there will be an alumnae group waiting for you and eager to make friends.

lewis208,
Check your PM inbox. I send you a message.

Hello,
This may interest parents.

Hazing: In the state of California conviction of hazing is a FELONY. Chapters do not take this lightly. The new member period has been shortened to around six weeks. There is emphasis in all chapters to assist new members to make good grades.
Academics: All university GPA in spring 2006 was 3.19
All sorority GPA in spring 2006 was 3.31

In 2007 837 women signed up for recruitment. Quota was set by Panhellenic at 62. All chapters but one took 62 or above. One chapter was short by only 1. Six chapters took 67 or above.

Click on the university website. Go to search. Click on Panhellenic. The site will come up with more recruitment information as well as photos of the chapter houses.

anyone not get a bid at all last year?
