i have a question about the scholarships..
i applied by dec 1 except my scores were sent late.. it's a little complicated. i sent them along with the dec sat IIs i took but then realized that wasnt going to be by dec 1, and in the end i think the scores were like a week late.
however, they were still checking things off the checklist at the time. ie my rec was actually marked as rec'd later than the SAT scores, though it was sent early enough to be there by dec 1.
so anyway i got in on jan 30 or whatever that day was into university honors, honors humanities and gemstone.
does this mean i 'made the priority cutoff' or not? i have friends who didnt apply until mid-dec and got their decisions jan 30, so i'm wondering if they were lenient with the december 1st thing or if i was just admitted but not considered priority.
it's bugging me now because I'm really anxious about scholarships, esp banneker key since its coming out now.. my sisters numbers/leadership/all that stuff were considerably lower than mine and she got presidential which seems similar to b/k lower level minus book allowance and some prestige.. so if im eligible for any of it i feel good about getting presidential, but i'm beginning to think maybe those scores prevented me from being considered with the priority apps thus removing my application from the pool that are eligible for banneker key/presidential etc..
so basically, am i eligible?

Just so you know presidential comes in many different monetary forms...2K to 8K.

SInce you found out with the EDS I am going to assume that you were considered with the EDs for FA

i am seriously hoping that. but i heard some students discussing how they got b/k today at my high school and felt really defensive because i feel like I am more qualified. i might call today to ask if im eligible for merit aid..
i hate sounding all arrogant, dont know how Im going to ask about the status of my application without saying "why didnt I get the b/k scholarship!!" lol will try

Unfortunately, you did not get a B/K invite (they've all gone out by now), but you're still in consideration for the Presidential (and other in-state and dept.) scholarships. They don't make the decisions on those until mid-March or so. Hang in there!

Foghorn - did you get a chance to talk to your GC? I wasn't able to talk to mine yet. I got an acceptance to University of Rochester yesterday so I'm a little more relaxed - at least I am going to college somewhere! Will keep my fingers crossed for U of Va now. With the invitations for the big Maryland scholarships gone $ will probably be a problem with Maryland for me, if they get arounnd to giving me a decision.

YES I HAVE A DECISION!!!! accepted into honors program - deep sigh - thanks to all of you for being out there for me.
What do you hear foghorn and jorge.juan?? I won't rest until I know you guys hear as well. Best

yay! congrats! I don't have any impending college decisions for my own offspring so I keep checking your status! Good luck to foghorn and jorge!

Muffy - people like you are examples of this site at its best. Thanks - am squeezing for the others too.

FINALLY!!! Congratulations, goodschool. I've been following this thread and hoping you'd get your answer soon. Good luck to the rest of you still waiting to hear.

Congrats! I just wonder what took so dang long?!!!

I've been quietly following as well and keeping my fingers crossed. My son was also admitted into the Honors program. Congratulations! Now show us the money! (anything will help!)

OMG Goodschool, i am so happy for you.

I have been checking this thread daily and hoping for you to get the answer you wanted. The waiting must have been excruciating!!

Maybe see you on campus!!!

Jorge and foghorn, keep us posted.

Jorge and foghorn???? Are you guys out there? I can't stop checking this thread until I hear from you guys. And it's not just me waiting^ looks like we had alot of people pulling for us - let us hear from you. Maybe you are chiilin with your friends since you got your acceptance!
Thanks for waiting with me everybody!

Out of curiosity what was the last 4 or 5 numbers for your UMD id...just curious if it was higher up than the others

24158, so what do you think?

Congrats goodschool, I'm glad it worked out for you!

Still haven't heard anything and I haven't been able to get a hold of my counselor. However, I did get a response to an email I recently sent:

"Hi ______,

Your application is currently under review for our academically talented programs. This is the reason for the delay in the release of your official decision. I apologize for this delay, but I assure you that it is for the best of reasons. I anticipate you receiving your official decision from our office within this week. While I cannot give you your official admission decision via email, I think you will be pleased with it.

Please let me know if I can do anything else for you or your family.

Best,
Jesse Bowen"

What I don't get is the fact that a ton of my friends who got into Gemstone, Scholars, Honors etc. heard back Jan. 30th or a few days after that. The reason he gave was consideration for academically talented programs, which I assume include Gemstone and the like that so many people were accepted into over 3 weeks ago. So what's with the hold up of my decision? Couldn't they have just told me this like a month ago? Man.

Whatever, I got a good response so now I guess I'll just have to wait a little bit longer.

Well good...I know DS's number ly was about 7K off, but his first 2 numbers started with 11...so now my theory is probably thrown out the window...anybody else out there with a higher number and earlier acceptance than Good

GO TERPS BEAT DUKE...TONIGHT!

I too received an acceptance into the University of Maryland's honors program. However, I don't know how I should react. I was accepted into the "Letters and Sciences" program instead of the Clark school. When I called up admissions, they said they probably didn't read my application "thoroughly" and gave me an email address of a man to contact regarding a switch of intended majors. The wait goes on for me!!

Good luck, Mike. They really have been extremely disorganized during this whole ordeal.

Look on the bright side, though - you got in.

Congrats bigmike; and it sounds promising for you, Foghorn.
