This is my first post on this site, so hopefully it will make it through!

My D got into Honors (810 accepted) then got a letter saying she got into Honors Humanities (50 accepted.) I'm trying to get more info about the comparison of the two programs, pros and cons, or whatever info anyone has to offer. 3000 miles is a long way to go without all the facts! Thanks.

anybody know when college park will request for final transcripts?
the admissions office said a student may not have to send one to college park if not contacted

My D just recieved her "financial aid" letter today from University of Maryland. I find it necessary to post this information in case anyone else who recieved their acceptance late is having a similar situation. As mentioned above my D's info and all went in on time (DEC 1). UMD does not dispute that at all. The University had a computer glitch that affected many people and resulted in them being processed late. I was assured my D would receive "full" consideration for all scholarships. (She is salutatorian of her class 2330 SAT, full EC's ). However, incredulously, she received NO SCHOLARSHIP consideration whatsoever while others with lesser stats and EC's did. She only received admittance to the general honors program. The "financial aid" is non existent. . Needless to say she is not going to UMD however I just wanted to warn anyone else who may have heard late due to no fault of theirs. UMD may not be fullly processing your applications in good faith either.

I don't mean to be disrespectful but i received my acceptance very late but was invited to the last B/K interview way after when most invites were sent out...if UMD wanted you daughter to get merit she would have gotten it. You sound rather entitled...just because you daughter had nice scores doesn't mean she is automatically an in for a scholarship...if admissions picked up on your attitude maybe that is part of it!

abc...does this mean that all merit scholarships (we are in CA, not VA) are all out by now? I'm guessing that just because DD is accepted to Honors Humanities doesn't mean she will get any kind of merit $$? Boo-hoo if that is the case!

I too think a lot more goes into the B/K consideration than just scores. DS has the scores, but he also is very strong in EC's, letters, and essay. He is very well rounded and has a great personality * _ * but hey, I'm his mom! But seriously, I do believe that every effort would have been made to interview your daughter for B/K if they felt all aspects of the criteria were there, late or not. They could have also done a phone interview at any time. UMD-College Park may not have been a good scholarship fit for her.

Also, it is a huge honor to be accepted to the Honors program. You dismiss it by saying "only received admittance to the general honors program". Many are very proud. Acceptance to Gemstone and the others is based on whether or not you want to research or work on projects in groups or your major, etc. It is not a weeding out of those accepted to the "general honors".

One more thing, just because others with lesser stats were invited to interview for B/K does not mean that they have less to offer. DS was told about lots of students that interviewed with great scores, but no personality whatsoever. When asked a question they could not elaborate into a conversation. Some only gave short or one word answers! This was not what they were looking for. They also told the the B/K group that the average GPA of B/K Scholars interviewing is 4.3, so ALL are obviously academically gifted in addition to having met the other criteria they are looking for.

I know you are upset, but everything happens for a reason and I'm sure there is a great fit out there somewhere for you and your daughter. Good luck to you.

abc - There is late and then there is really late - some people, who filed by the priority deadline, did not get processed until after the BK invitations went out. There absolutely was a problem this year and it may have made a difference for some students.
idk - I understand your being upset - hang in there.

i'm afraid i haven't the faintest clue...I would just wait and see or call admissions.

goodschool,

i know that...i am just saying that as far as i can tell...if they wanted to give someone a scholarship, they would have, particularly if you contacted them and then they got moving on your app....

My daughter has still not herd from Maryland, even though all of her paperwork was in on time (priority). She has been accepted to 6 schools already, so we don't really care, but it sure is disappointing that the admissions office is so disorganized.

so basically, i applied by priority. and have yet to heard. im guessing a lot of people have this problem. does this affect my chances of getting in? and will it affect my ability to apply for the scholars program? also, does anyone know why they are so late? ive had no luck with calls or emails.

Wasn't there an earlier decision release day for priority? I think so. This is not right for "priority" - you need to hold for how ever long it takes and talk to somebody!

My D also had her application in by the priority deadline and still no answer. She has been accepted by four other schools (GT, Univ Mich, UCIC & Purdue) for AeroEng. Now we have scholarship offers from other schools we can cross Md from our list even though it is in state. To bad their process is such a mess.

Alright, this is ****ing me off.
I applied Priority, they pushed me to regular and they didn’t give me a reason. Now I still don’t have a decision. What the heck? Other colleges are giving me their acceptances and rejections, why can’t UMD?
I think this is about the worst school I’ve ever seen with deadlines.
And someone said Mid-April now? I’d prolly have a deposit to another college by then. Do they not want people to go to their school or something?

still nothing here. I applied RD in NJ already got into UVa, UNC, BC, BU, NYU Stern, Rutgers, Vermont…why can maryland not notify me i just wanna know already
