Who's the smartest person you know?

He came to my school through this program ([King’s Scholarship (Thailand) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](King's Scholarship (Thailand) - Wikipedia)) and he was the absolute most intelligent individual I have ever met. He went with us to math competitions and answered every single question on his own and we would win.

Honestly? Me. I know a lot of people have said that jokingly, but I’m actually serious. I work harder, and I’m naturally far more intelligent, than any of my contemporaries. I have an abnormally high IQ, well into the “genius” range.

^
lol full of yourself

by what are you judging is someone is the smartest? there are alot of standards to go by: booksmarts, street smarts, strategists, etc…

I don’t really know what I’m judging by.

I like people that are naturally smart.

My best friend is the smartest person I know (in my state) and he only has a 3.5 gpa

He knows almost everything but just doesn’t like school

So, basically, whateverf floats your boat. If it’s steet smarts, so be it. If it’s hard word, so be it.

"after knowing this person for a while, you notice something is different about this person and that this person understands the world at a more raw, deeper level "

Basically, what this person said.

Just by watching a person, you can tell something.

The smartest person I know is truly a genius. Too bad he doesn’t apply himself to the fullest extent possible. His legacy is well known by those who have attended classes with him in high school. While everybody struggled, he excelled. The best example that showed his genius was one time in Calculus class. My teacher was discussing a math problem with the class. Well, she made a mistake in the calculation. Nobody noticed that except him. And the shocking part was that he wasn’t even looking at the board when he did that; he was half-sleeping with his head directly rested on his forearm (I was also sleeping. Hahah, for all you know, I could be lying just to make myself look cool). The students in that class featured most of the top 1% students in my school: valedictorian, salutatorian, the one who got 800 on SAT math, etc. What got his grade down were homework, projects, and other out of class assignments. He rarely did any of them. What he can’t finish in class, he didn’t even try to finish them. I have had classmates, in order to make them look smart, claimed they never did homework or studied for test. They were full of ****. And most of those good students studied really hard for their grade. But the genius I am talking about is different. He is lazy as hell. He is the only person in my entire school whom I see as better than me in math. And judging by the friends he hanged out with, you wouldn’t see him as a genius, more like somebody who is going to end up in prison somebody.

The smartest person you know is actually probably not the smartest person you know but simply the person who has most convinced you that he/she is. Even if you measure intelligence by someone’s ability to learn, retention of the arbitrary information deemed by academia to be important is not representative of that ability. Being motivated, well-spoken, or having a “deeper” understanding of the world is also not representative. Some kids grow up dedicating their lives to studying the arts, while others grow up studying pop culture. Some find school subjects to be interesting, while others sit in class and space out, never hearing a word of what the teacher is saying. There are idiots who pretend to be geniuses, who annunciate every word perfectly and carefully choose an impressive vocabulary that only their English superiors know they are misusing. I’ve seen people who constantly act like they’re stoned, who never apply themselves, who have surprised and outdone me in areas I consider my strengths.

IMO, considering yourself the smartest person you know is an easy way to prove to the world that you aren’t.

^ well, I’m not particularly impressed with the smart-kid-disguised-as-a-stoner types who people keep bringing up. I spent 12 years in the public school system being a slacker to the point where my teachers nicknamed me one; it doesn’t make you “smarter” if you get stoned all day and do nothing and somehow end up performing better than what was expected. I think the point a lot of people are trying to make is that the nerdy 4.0 kid who never goes out is often not that smart at all while the more relaxed B+ guy is smarter. and the guys who constantly use long words incorrectly is usually just dbags :/

I think being the smartest person you know would just suck. think about it; imagine going everywhere and knowing that 99% of people you meet are simply dumber than you - how lonely and awkward would that be?

also, I just remembered this guy I met in college who’s fluent in 11 languages - whoa! last semester in a neurolinguistics class we studied the brain and how it “learns” language and why it’s so hard after a certain age. So i’m very impressed by people who achieve that level of fluency in a number of languages.

It’s pretty impossible to gauge. I know a three-year-old kid who was trying to help the preschool director how to improve the standardized placement test. She said in her decades, she had NEVER had a kid to that before.

I also know a neat guy who has been a professor for >50 years or so & has created curriculum in science & math used successful around the world! He continues to create grants and travel the world, spreading great math & science curriculum that is wonderfully successful everywhere!

I know another guy who has been inventing and creating things for decades, including some that have gone to market and others that haven’t yet.

Another kid I know has been able to gauge people’s emotions and the rationale behind them since earliest memory. She’s always very accurate!

“it doesn’t make you “smarter” if you get stoned all day and do nothing and somehow end up performing better than what was expected”

i don’t think this is the point that was being made at all. no one is saying ‘this kid i know smokes pot & so does well in school’. many people here [including myself] believe that nature has something to do with how smart u are–not just work ethic. i see this in my school, every day. in fact, i, too, have a friend who smokes pot regularly & he is something of a genius. now, i’m not saying he is a genius because he smokes pot–he would be a genius either way. but it’s astounding when u know someone who is SO LAZY [i tell him this all of the time, lol] that he does well DESPITE his laziness. that’s nature-not nurture. that’s how i define genius, anyways.

oh, & also i second the idea that some people say they don’t work at all & u can tell that that is total BS. then there are other people who sleep in class & talk with their friends about how they were playing video games the entire night before-every single day-& yet they’re always light-years ahead of the class 0o damn those people. damn them to hell --

I know a kid who missed 1/2 of senior year about about 1/3 of HS, but still graduated as a NMF, taking all APs & marching band in his senior year. He’s an amazing kid & scheduled to graduate on track in EE. He’s one of the brightest people I know.

^ also one of the laziest…

Actually, he missed school because he had documented chronic health problems and learned to study while in doc’s offices, lying down unable to rise, and other innovative ways. He would have MUCH rather been able to attend school. Fortunately, his health has improved greatly in college (post puberty).

After coming to college I have meet way too many smart people and there is absolutely no way to determine who is the smartest. Also, it is important to note that sometimes smart people hide their intelligence making the task even more difficult. Lets face it, no one wants to be around someone who is constantly having intelligent conversation or acts like they are smarter than everyone else.

I’m only in eighth grade, and I would believe am the smartest person in my grade. I scored 1620 on my SAT, not to mention I took it in 7th as part of DTIP. (I’m not confusing it with another test). I’ve also won some awards in Math on a regional level. Straight A’s this year and ranked top 3 (they don’t disclose who is top). There aren’t too many measures of success besides these in my school.

^cool story, mini-brahhhh.

I don’t know whether he’s actually the smartest, but the person who I respect the most and believe to be incredibly intelligent is the professor I’m doing research under.
I’m in awe of this man and hold him in high regard.

my dad! i decided to follow his footsteps into architect
i think i should change my username because now that i know what i want, i don’t want to go to brown anymore.

Many brilliant people do NOT go to college for various reasons as well. There are so many forms of intelligence that many are not easily described either.
