I just got a letter in the mail from “Who’s Who Among American High School Students.” Can anyone tell me more about this program?

yes, its a huge scam and everybody gets it. Sorry

Yeah, many students receive letters from them.

Throw it away; it's definitely a scam. Avoid any 'honor roll' or list like that that you have to pay for.

Someone i know made up a bogus name and bogus information and it actually made it into the book. He didn't even make this "person" sound like he had done anything. Reguardless someone who actually had that name sued him for fraud or something like it. Lukily they dropped the suit

So I have to pay for it?

All it is is a book of faces of people with a certain score or gpa. You already have that score or gpa, so it not not mean anything beyond what you already have. Then if you want the book it's in you have to buy it. This is how they make money. Just think if they have thousands of people they can charge 40 bucks to you can make $400,000 off of 10,000 ppl. Anyway do not put this on you application, it's embarassing.

I say, if you don't have to pay, go for it. :D If you do, stay clear.

I got this last year...didn't pay for the book, but sent in my info. I did list it on college apps and I got in, so I don't see why it's that bad.

you shoulnd't even put it on your app..its a waste of time and makes it look like you didn't really achieve anything if you are resorting to whats in the mail. everyone gets it...im sorry i know it seems like an accomplishment but they just want money. colleges and my counselor always say DONT put it on apps to impress anyone...its not justifiable

yup, it's true, my mom used to look for scholarhsips for me on fastweb and she used my general STATS to create username, etc. so i actually recieved 2 different letters from them under 2 different names. they dont' worth a thing obviously.
