I just got a letter today, did a quick search of google and found mixed opinions about this
Im a junior in highschool, is this thing a scam? and do colleges look at this positively or what?

S-C-A-M.

Practically anyone can be part of Who's Who.

The number of students included in these books makes citation in Who's Who pretty worthless in the eyes of college admission committees. The publishers just want to sell lots of copies of their books to proud parents. In my estimation, they are scam artists right behind the National Star Registry folks.

Who's Who is a joke.

LMFAO.
I got it in September, and my sisters got it today. (And it's for high school students... I'm in eighth grade.)
It's a scam. You don't need a book validating your achievement...

what about the scholarships? i got a letter today and i'd sign up if i could get some money for college.

I got it too. i was excited about it. is it really a scam?

Not a total scam.

You aren't binded to ordering a book

...so it's all free.

Sometimes it'll help as a filler/fluff/bull for resumes...as I was told.

If you're bored, have the time, go ahead and fill it out. Nothing to waste.

I filled it out and return it and never heard from them again......

Hey, I thought that was only me. I guess not.

You are absolutely right in all five statements. And I followed those steps exactly and I got into my first choice...so it can't hurt... :)

Its a S C A M . And if you put it on ur app , especially for competitive schools, they will laugh. No joke.

I doubt it can actually HURT on your college apps. But make sure that if you include it, it's like #40 on your Awards/Honors list. Even local school awards are probably more prestigious!!!:)

Why do you even need fillers like Who's Who on your college applications. Wouldn't it be better to just, oh I don't know, DO something? I'm pretty sure most colleges don't really give Who's Who that much weight, just because everyone knows its just fluff.

Fluffy as cotton candy. And cotton candy is all sugar. And sugar rots your teeth. Therefore, who's who rots your teeth and is of no worth.

We get the same question every year... and the same responses, too.

I threw my entry away.

well for those of us who hold a steady job 30 hours a week and play a varsity sport, and maybe belong to one or two clubs, awards arent very frequent...filler is only useful if yur app isnt ALREADY filled

That's not necessarily true...I have a steady job working at least 20 hours a week, I spend nearly every weekend debating, I write for the school newspaper, I'm in drama, AND I'm in NHS and Non-Western Culture Club.

Believe me, if you want it bad enough, there's plenty of prestige to be had. It's just a matter of time management and drive.

I heard about it that people subscribed to it, but some people said that it was a waste
