Who's Who Among American Students

I got a nomination from Who's Who. Is it even worth sending in the form with their requested information or is Who's Who really just a money making scheme? I'm an HS senior, so I don't really know what good it will do me to have my name in it next fall... Any ideas? Can anyone provide some objective information as to what Who's Who is and what they REALLY do for students.

You pay to get in.. its a joke.. .my dad taught me well. Here is how it goes:

Get Nominated + You Pay =Colleges Say No + Crap + Anger
Get Nominated + You Send In A Form = Colleges See You Didn't Pay + Legit + Happiness

so should I follow the latter of your scenarios?

wait... you should send in the form?
I thought the whole thing was just about paying, and was pretty much pointless beyond that.

Nope - you can indeed send it in without paying.

ITS A SCAM...........

Same thing with The National Society of High School Scholars

a woman posted about this before, she said that her and her S thought it wasn't real, but sent in their forms without paying, and they got scholarship money. Ill try to find it.

It is a scam. The people that they give scholarship money to are not always even the most qualified academically. It's usually random. Then they put a smiling photo on their advertisements.

Free listing or not, it is a marketing ploy to get you and your family to then buy the book you are listed in. The listing may be free but the books are not. And usually there are several levels of books to choose from, each supposedly fancier and priced accordingly. Think about it, how did these organizations find out you are such a great student? Did your high school contact them and release your academic records in violation of FERPA (federal privacy act for academic records) or did the publisher buy lists of broadly profiled names from a college entrance board testing service? And if you think the testing services don't sell lists of names, how many unsolicited emails did you get from colleges identifying you as the perfect student for them based on the results of your college entrance tests?

The National Society of High School Scholars.....i remember that, two yrs ago this girl and I both were nominated for this award, and it promised a chance to go to NYC. Never happened, it's stupid, it's hoax. Trash them with passion.

I did - I shredded it.

its a scam i got one too

llolllzoords, i just got the natl high school scholars thing the other day and it had stuff about a teacher at my school in it, but it still looked awfully scammissh
