This thread is lame.

Yeah well, thousands of kids spending countless hours on this board is lame.

So what else is new?

i just dont get the point...

Oh well, I see plenty of so-called "points."

the actual admissions people don't see your financial aid application. i think don't quote me on this. sigh. why do i bother?

I think it's an interesting question. Our family income puts us at about the 50th percentile of United States household incomes, but that's only about at the 15th percentile of Harvard enrollee family incomes, I think.

Fiesta, they don't see it. However, they're likely to be highly experienced in telling from the rest of the application who is going to be under the 40k mark and who is not. Parents' educations, addresses, activities, essays. Nearly everything can be read in terms of socioeconomics on applications.

I won't go into detail about my family's finances, but yes, we're well below the 40k line.

Actually, it would take a very subtle knowledge of many neighborhoods to guess income from an address. Knowing only my ZIP code, you might guess I am much wealthier than I am. People who work for rich people have to live near the rich people to avoid long commutes.

right... i forgot: harvard people read the apps :) . yeah, they probably had no trouble figuring out where we fall on their spectrum.
