Why am I on hold?

I applied to Temple back in early November, and I am pretty sure I completed my application before the deadline. I’ve been waiting for a response and today I find out I’ve been put on hold.

I used the Temple Option but the rest of my application should be ok. I’ve always been a good student and last year as a junior my averages for each quarter have never gone below a 90. I have a 3.54 GPA. I’m in the National Honors Society. I’ve also been accepted to Pittsburgh University, which has higher standards than Temple from my understanding.

I heard that Temple puts you on hold when they want to look at other applications until they decide on you, but I honestly can’t see why they’d do that to me. Is it because I didn’t send them my SAT scores? Currently, I have a 1700 SAT score (I had a 1690 back when I was applying to Temple so I used the Temple Option).

I heard that it is really easy to get accepted to Temple and so I wasn’t really worried. But now that I’ve been put on hold, I won’t even get an answer until April 1. Is there anything that I can do so that I won’t be on hold anymore? Is being on hold bad?

could be due to your essay with Temple option. is 1700 within comfortable range for Temple? if so, see if you can change app to traditional and send them the test score.

what major> some majors are hard to get into. that may be issue too

If Temple is a real interest of yours I suggest you email them and express the interest. Ask them if there is anything you can do to improve your chances during the regular decision option. Sometimes odd things happen during the application process - my D got a scholarship from a great college and then got deferred from another. It can be a little crazy at times.

i totally agree with amy

You should also try to visit if you haven’t already done so. You can probably sit in on a class if you want. Some schools allow you to upload additional information if you’ve been deferred. Check if Temple has a “why Temple” essay option. If they do, write about your visit and how great it was.

Temple profs were very open to my son sitting in on a class his senior year of high school. we contacted profs directly through email or you could contact dept head too.

Temple is very receptive to contacts from prospective students

My daughter is also on hold. She’s coming from a very rigorous private with a 3.6, and SAT of 1840, and is a student athlete in two varsity sports. She got accepted to a few other school that are on the same level, or maybe a bit more selective, so we’re quite surprised. And we did spend a day on campus last spring…

Does she plan to compete at Temple in one of the sports?

@ctl987 Yes, at least one of them. However it’s a non revenue sport, and unless your kid is a super athlete, most schools now seem to rather take walkons. Recently she received a couple of really good admits, so mom is very happy that Temple may not happen.

Hi I know this is a year later but I am going through the exact problem. I was wondering if you ever got in and did you hear before April 1st. I am a little worried because this is my first choice and confused because I talked to one of the admission guys before sending in my application and he said I had nothing to worry about due to my scores.

@truckle45 my application was put on hold too. I’m so worried temple is my first choice. Do you know of anyone that got in after being on hold?

@villalobosbn I got in today after being notified that my application was being put on hold earlier this month!

I applied early action (october 28th) my application was marked as complete & ready for review. I received an email saying that I am placed on hold on December 6th… its March 23rd & I am still on hold. sent them my mid year grades and had my teacher write a letter of recommendation… best of luck to me and you!

@auniversitygal did you send any additional academic information? Call them? I don’t know what to do. My application is still on hold. I sent them my mid year grades but idk if I should send them something else? :frowning:
