What is the point of College Board having both AP tests and SAT Subject Tests? Why not have a single set of exams used for the AP classes and college admissions? Furthermore, in my experience the AP exams tend to be more difficult than the SAT Subject Tests, and many of them include essays or free-response questions, so they seem to be better tests anyway. Is this just a clever scheme to get more money by making students pay for more tests?

AP classes are not available for all students

Not all AP exams have a replica SAT subject tests (Macro/micro Econ)

AP exams tend to be harder because you can receive college credit if you score high enough. This is also true for the subject tests; however, it is not as common.

Does it make sense to take the same subject in both SAT ST and AP? i.e. to fufill SAT ST requirements for colleges and all that. And how many schools actually require SAT STs?
