Why are CSU transfers set up to spend an extra year in school?

ChemE major here.

Was denied at every school last year for not having certain classes completed. Now I was accepted to all the colleges I applied to (SO FAR) as a transfer fall 2020, however all these schools are basically set up where I only qualify to take 1 or 2 classes for the first year, basically forcing a 3rd year enrollment. It’s a complete waste of time that I won’t be able to work and will have to commute for 1 year to be enrolled in 3-6 units per semester. There is absolutely no benefit to spending an extra year in CC to fulfill additional classes, all it does is significantly increase the amount of time you spend in school.

It has to do with chemical engineering commonly having specialized course work in second year that community colleges typically do not have.

However, you may be able to limit your extra time to a semester instead of a year, based on your other thread about CSULB.
