Everyone you talk to and everything you read says so...is it a conspiracy?

Could anyone really be that happy...well, I guess, why not.

Parent of an extremely happy 08

I remember my D's first visit to Dartmouth and she did nto know what to exect. when she came home I asked her how was it. She said "they are some of the nicest people you ever want to meet , they are not just happy, they are down right chipper. This is where I am going".

That was the beginning of her love affair with Dartmouth and she still loves it.

Personally, I think they are pod people because I am still trying to figure out why they are so damn happy. Finals are wrapping up and while they are happy that classes are finished they are sad about leaving each other for the summer. They have started making plans for thier sophmore summer next year. Overall it has been a very good year.

Parent of another very happy 08

I too have wondered about this happiness thing sometimes. Maybe happiness is a self-fulfilling prophecy? If so, well that is great I guess, but there must be something fundamentally great about the experience at the heart of it all too. Clearly, Dartmouth is not a perfect fit for every student, but it seems to be a great fit for the vast majority- maybe there is a good bit of self -selection going on in the first place - and an admissions staff that is experienced in selecting good fits.

Once you get there, it seems, the upper classmates do their part to give the new class as great a start as they had. And most everyone, from adminstration to profs to the people in food services, etc... seems to be helpful and to genuinely like the students. But for an '09, a huge factor in the happiness quotient is likely to be fellow '09s.

Anyway, enjoy your summer FountainSiren and try to tolerate that long wait while you are still at home as most of your friends are going off to school weeks ahead of you - your time will come!

Anyway FountainSiren,
