Why are Duke's ED apps up 32%?

All we can conclude is that this is the “first choice” that the student has the best chance of getting into and can reasonably live with.</p>

<p>Most Duke ED applicants would prefer to attend the Ivies, Stanford, MIT, etc., but they want to maximize their chances at a so-called “top ten” school. So they settle for Duke.

Please; enough Duke bashing. Duke’s admissions rate has seen all-time lows for the last couple of years. ED apps are greatly rising; sure, Duke might not have a huge ED pool, but 32% is a significant trend, big or small. The perception of a narcissistic and arrogant (in a non-elite way) attitude at Duke that once made top students reluctant to apply is disappearing everywhere but amongst CC and UNC alumni.</p>
