I thought the UC Berkeley bills were supposed come up to about 14,000 a semester?!!? Did I forget to pay for something? I am getting charged only 10,000 this semester. I am sure I do not qualify for financial awards of any sort.

Are you in a triple with no UC Health plan?

Look closely at your CARS bill. They only charge for tuition, fees, and board.

did you check your bearfacts financial aid tab? Where did you get the figure 14k?

the 14k you’re talking about includes book fees, airplane tickets on your visits home, and other personal expenses like food and clothes and whatever. It’s the estimated amount that a student needs which UC uses to give out financial aid.

yeah i just paid my cars bill…
IS THERE ANY WAY TO SEE EXACTLY WHAT WE’RE PAYING FOR?
like $XX for tuition, $XX fees, etc

and my bill is extraordinary low…not even $6,000… could this be because i’m rooming offcampus?
is health care included?

IS THERE ANY WAY TO SEE EXACTLY WHAT WE’RE PAYING FOR?

Yes, you go to Bear Facts >> E-BILL (scroll down, click yes/okay/whatever) and see your statements. Click on the link leading to your full statement.

For me, it says all the money goes to “Registration Fees”
I’m guessing that does not include health care?

I guess a lot of people try to pay today. I like to pay the tuition and R&B from different accounts, so I did tuition a few days ago, and R&B today. I find the CARS to be the worst online system I have ever encountered. The figures just doesn’t make sense, and I have to go back and forth using a calculator to find my the amount I think I should pay.

The insurance is included in Registration Fees, since my son has SHIP waiver, they show a $698 credit on the statement.

The $0.5 convenience fee is not a lot, you pay that much just in stamps and envelope. However even the IRS would not charge it because it is really more to their convenience. They do not need someone to open the envelope, deposit the check, manually enter into the CARS system, and they get the money immediately. It is not a big deal but still an annoyance.

has anyone’s financial aid/loans actually kicked in? (My amount sent to CARS is still 0.)

I read on the FA website somewhere that it won’t get sent until one week before the semester begins. Semester begins on the 20th, so one week prior would be the 13th. 2 days before the bill is due.

hmm. ok I think I understand now. Thx everybody
