Why are Psych. Upper Division Wait Lists so Long?!

What is it about these courses that make the wait lists for them so long?
Only 41 spots will be taken, with 140 something ppl on the waitlist when there's 70 spots open? Are they reserved for those that have declared?

i assume they’re reserved for declared, spring admits, jr transfers, and professor approval (w/ CEC)

does this mean that doing an engineering HSS series in psych is hard (to get into the upper div class i mean)?

^it is probably going to be extremely hard to get into.

well… it actually depends how persistent you are… (I never listened to advisors who told me I couldn’t get into a class, and got into all the upper div’s I signed up for while undeclared). The best chance you would have would be to sign up for a discussion section that still has seats open while you’re on the waitlist.

There are a lot of tangential social science majors that require psych courses such as sociology and political science so spots get taken up quickly.

Only psych majors can enroll during Phase I, so everyone else ends up on the waitlist. They start letting other people in sometime during Phase II. At least I’m pretty sure this is how it works. I waitlisted for two upper div courses during my Phase I and just got into them a few days ago, right after my Phase II had started. I would guess that the waitlists are made up in large part by pre-majors who have declared but are still finishing up the last of the pre-reqs this semester.
