Does anyone know why 19% of undergrads are Asian?

Btw, I'm Asian.

im an asian and i don’t see why would be problematic.
don’t you know that having many asians gives us a voice?

btw, other top schools have 22% asians

Most of the math/science-centric universities have higher Asian populations.

That said, Rice is actually somewhat on the low end among universities, possibly because it has a weaker geographic pull.

I started the same thread a while ago:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/rice-university/633533-how-come-there-so-many-asians-rice.html

LOL… look at the name of the University: RICE

Jk… but i just wanted to point that out =) iam asian too

It’s not right that the OP is looked down upon by some posters/readers when asking this question. Just because some one does not want to be around so many Asians does not mean they are racist. Shame on those who always have to pull out the race card and call people racists when people innocently bring up these questions. This is not in response to any previous posts, but to the general responses in previously related threads.

In response to the OP’s question… this is a trend at all highly selective universities. Peer schools like Duke, Emory, Stanford, Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, UPenn, and Cornell have greater percentage of Asians than Rice does. I find that many Asians tend to self-segregate. Luckily, this is not true for all Asians and self-segregation is more rare at Rice than at some of its peer schools.

It’s also a shame that Asians must say that “I’m Asian” to avoid being labeled as a racist when criticizing the fact that Asians are over-represented at many universities. It’s important to be politically correct, but not overly politically correct, as our society has become.

Does anyone know why 62.8% of undergrads are White?
Btw, I’m white.

Touche. Ha.

Huh???

When did OP say he/she didn’t want to be around so many Asians? Sometimes, a question is just a question.

slik nik, I don’t think any of the posters before you said anything implying that they were “looking down on” the OP.

oneguy21, are you kidding me? do you really not know why there’s a lot of asians in Rice? c’mon now…

I agree with wakka, it’s quite obvious lol

@NySkins: As I stated in my post, I realize that no previous poster was “looking down” upon the OP for asking this question. However, in Modulation’s thread and in other threads on CC (I raised this question on the Emory thread as well when I was applying to schools), there are some posters who consider us intolerant for asking such a question. So I was ranting against that instead of anything specifically posted on this thread. I also wanted future posters to realize that they shouldn’t consider the OP intolerant for asking such a question.

@You don’t say: I was defending the OP… I wasn’t attacking him/her.
