I have not spoken to my family in YEARS.

So why is the CSS asking for my parents financial information?? That makes no sense...

For federal aid you would be independent and not asked for that info. A school giving away it’s own institutional funds can make it’s own rules however they want. The profile is just a form that may try to collect that info but that doesn’t mean a school will use it.

Are you an undergraduate student? Some Profile schools ask for parent info regardless of age for undergraduates. You should contact the school and ask THEM their policy.

I don’t believe the Profile has a provision for “independent students”…I don’t recall any questions on it, like FAFSA, that would flag students who are older and independent. Maybe I’m wrong, however, as I haven’t completed a profile in a while.

I think you both are right. But, am I shooting myself in the foot by putting Zero’s for all the parents answers? I do NOT know their info, nor will I ever. I called Cornell and they said to put Zero or 1, but I am wondering how that will look to other schools?

Are you a freshman new applicant to Cornell at age 25? If so, just do what they tell you to do. If you have the same question for OTHER colleges, call them and ask them for THEIR procedure. I think you can submit separately to each college…but this may not be necessary…they might all want 0s…hopefully someone will clarify this.
