I have been through a long series of interviews and so far nothing, even for most menial jobs. This is not counting countless other positions to which I applied and was apparently judged as someone not dignifying an answer of any sort. The most discouraging thing is that they will tell you the "deadline" by which they will let you know and then they don't. These are not some jobs that one applies to by just clicking, they want resumes, cover letters, and then no answer, unless you call them and they happen to respond. How is everyone's experience? The jobs are getting scarce and in October I still have not gotten anything to make use of my 2k's in funds.

They should be pretty easy to land… have you tried student guarding?

Or Phonathon?

^I have been checking the employment site since summer and I have yet to see a single announcement on student guard positions. Perhaps they have enough people from the previous years who are more experienced.

What is Phonathon, btw? I have not heard of it either. Most jobs that they offer are clerical, which is just fine, but still nothing. Waiting on two responses right now, and one of them I was supposed to have on last Friday, she asked me to wait more.ugghh…

Are you in the business school? I got a job as a research assistant, professors always need people check for some of these postings, it was fairly easy to get my job.

^no, I’m in SFS. What you’re saying - that it was easy to get a job - seems from a completely different world for me. I have a one year experience doing exactly what these idiots want and still no luck. I am wasting so much of my time doing this, it feels like I am competing for a real career when this money is my financial aid award for a pathetic $2000 that can help me a great deal. I just received another rejection and one more will be known by the end of the week. By my previous experience I can tell that if they said by the end of the week, they will probably let me know next week. No accountability whatsoever.

And on top of this, some Admins don’t even bother to take their listings down once someone is hired. Feel free to write and email as much as you want, only to receive an answer a week later that the position has been closed.

Phonathon is in the Office of Advancement. You call up alumni (and sometimes parents) to ask if they want to donate to the scholarship fund, or anywhere else they choose. You work 3 shifts a week. One 3h on Sundays, get paid for 4, and 2 2 1/2 shifts mon-thurs, get paid for 3h. You can also double your salary through bonus hours by actualyl getting people to donate. You get to sit and do your homework until someone picks up. It’s fun, low time commitment, plus the manager is nice and will write you good recs for jobs.

Check it out, they hire at the beginning of every semester maybe, I think you missed the one for this semester. The advertisement on the SEO website is for Student Caller, I think.

Good luck!

And yet another rejection… at least she had a decency of getting back to me when promised.
