Why aren't Pi Kappa Alpha/Lambda Phi Epsilon recognized?

So I was researching into the fraternities, and found these fraternities I might want to join. But I'm wondering why it they aren't recognized. Searching hasn't gotten me very far, so I'm wondering if it is because of a simple lack of members? Or do they have some kind of bad reputation?

I assume you were reading from the Northeastern website this:
“The following organizations are not recognized by Northeastern University: Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Lambda Phi Epsilon.”

Also a simple google search finds this about the Pikes : [Pi Kappa Alpha slammed with suspension, faces charter loss | The Huntington News](http://huntnewsnu.com/2011/12/pi-kappa-alpha-slammed-with-suspension-faces-charter-loss/)

I know Lambda Phi Epsilon has had a LOT of problems on other campuses for really bad hazing and zero oversight from their national committee, so that’s probably why. They’ve had multiple deaths of pledges and members. Example : [The New Animal Houses - The Daily Beast](<a href=“The New Animal Houses”>The New Animal Houses)

Oh wow, thanks a lot neuchimie!
