Hi everyone! I really want to get into Barnard but nobody in my friends circle is familiar enough with the school to advise me on my Why Barnard essay. I’m freaking out a bit because I really want this essay to be as convincing as possible. Is there anyone acquainted with the school who would like to read my essay and offer some words of advice? This is really my last resort and I would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you!

Maybe why it’s focus on women draws out to you- how you will benefit from it? If you’re a feminist, then you can write that Barnard fills that need for you, etc.

You need to think about what specifically makes Barnard a good fit for you and what about YOU would add to the student community there. Don’t focus on it being in NYC and part of Columbia alone----do your research and find out about what is unique about Barnard. For example, my D searched high and low for a place where she could continue to study dance at a challenging, pre-professional level and still have strong academics. Barnard met all those requirements and then some. So what do you seek in your college experience and why/how does Barnard uniquely fit that?

Reading a lot of these threads might help—have you visited?

Your “Why Barnard” essay should be all about YOU and Barnard.

Hope this helps some. Best to you!
