To all the current CSOM students and CSOM alumni - I know BC CSOM is one of the top 20 Undergrad business schools. But other than that ranking, why did you guys choose CSOM? What’s so unique about CSOM?
CSOM is unique because it will force you to become a well-rounded student. You are required to take courses in the liberal arts and business. In CSOM, you “choose” concentrations such as finance or accounting to specialize in while you take courses that teach you about all sorts of fields from finance to marketing to business analytics. Although, other universities do require their students to take prerequisite courses in areas such as science, Boston College makes an effort to emphasize their importance in education. BC strives to educate the whole person, a quality I believe separates it from other reputable institutions.
On paper, BC is a strong semi-target for attractive fields such as Investment Banking and Consulting, especially in New York and Boston. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me!
@dhman2014 I was looking for a strong program overall (that’s where ranking factored in for me; we’re #4 btw, not just top 20 haha) that had access to a large® city while not being necessarily in it (I’m not a fan of urban campuses). I also wanted it to be about mid-size and have a good sports atmosphere (preferably in football). That’s what I wanted in a school. I think it’s important to look at the university rather than the program, or at least that’s the approach I was taking when making my decision. When everything was said and done and I narrowed down my acceptances to 3 schools (UVA, Villanova Honors, and BC), BC checked off the most boxes.
Not gonna lie, BC was about my 4th/5th choice on my list overall. My decisions didn’t really lean in my favor, with regard to schools that were a bit of a reach. However, since coming here, I was given a transfer plan to my top choice and turned it down. I often tell people this because I think it speaks to BC’s ability to retain its students and give them a fulfilling college experience.
Additionally, @gucci21 is totally right. You’re coaxed into developing your whole self-- leaving as a well rounded person with a particular advantage in your preferred area of study. The professors in almost every field are awesome and you’ll cast a wide net and get a ton of opportunities out of mainly Boston and New York.
PM me as well if you’d like, if you have any more specific questions or concerns on which you’d like me to elaborate.
