Why BC?

I am really excited for the next four years, I hope many of you feel the same. I am just wondering: why did you choose BC?

I chose because of the location (I’m on the west coast and tired of it), the people (everyone at BC was friendly when I visited), and the sports (BC football, basketball, and hockey are all legit).

Top Reason: I LOVE BOSTON. Abosolutely LOVE it.

BC's a good school....i thought it was really pretty when i visited.

Honestly, i want to know why pplz chose BC too... I mean, i'm prolly gonna go(due to the fact that it's the best out of my choices) but my whole heart's not in it. With the fact that it's expensive, not very diverse, and Catholic..... Can you guys tell me good stuff about BC so i'll feel better about going there?

Thank you =)

The girls are HOT, haha.

Other than that, the academics are good.

lol CCRunner, i hope you can contribute a little bit more than that, eh?

=)

ChibiChi, I have the same reservations as you. Overall, I feel that the whole experience of the school outweighs any concerns of mine about religion or diversity. I know a few people who go there and a few who teach there and everyone loves it. Boston is a great location and offers so much to the night life, or just something to do on the weekends. I live an hour away from Boston (in NH) and absolutely love the city. BC's campus is beautiful and the people are all nice!

I heart Boston as well. I have not visited the campus yet ... can you guys tell me about it? or any of you have links to pictures of the campus~?!?

thanks!!

Where to start? I love that it's a suburban campus right next to a great city (also great location for internships and whatnot). Great academic reputation, beautiful campus. Great "unity" feel around campus- I think it helps that football, bball, and hockey are all decent to great.

When I visited my friend last weekend everyone was really nice and welcoming and it really felt like a community. It may be cheesy but it's true!

well it was between urochester/nyu/bc
and i chose bc because of location/prestige/and although its not as diverse, boston as a whole is.

i agree with everyone else. i also really think that the bc student is unique because it seems that everyone at bc is very smart but doesnt brag about it..and although ppl are very intelligent they like to have a lot of fun and dont show off as much as ppl at some other schools

For me, it just fit me best. I attend a Jesuit High school so the sense of community definitely was a big plus for me. Additionally, Boston is a great city to be in. In terms of academics there really isn't much to say except that they are top-notch, maybe not a Ivy League but when you graduate your getting a great degree no matter what field. The students are awesome and the social/nightlife scene is just as active as the community service aspect of their lives as well. In terms of diversity I classify diversity in two different forms. A school, may be diverse but not necessarily accepting of different values or cultures or ideas, but a school also might be not as diverse, but accepting of different values, cultures and ideas. As a minority, diversity does mean something to me, but I would rather be in a world where I feel I can be myself and not have to worry, rather than be around people who are exactly like me but others may not appreciate that. Anyway, BC is a great school in a great city. The academics and athletics are top notch, there are ways to get involved, the girls are great and the social scene is lively. Can't wait to see you all next year!

I'm deciding between Rutgers & BC..

Deciding factors when thinking about a school (for me at least): Cost, Location, People, Education.

My major concerns:

Cost: After calculation, i found out that if i go to BC, i would have to 200 a month for 20 years to pay off my debt. (and i plan on attending Grad. school... so that's another what, 40 years?)

Location: right outside of Boston--Awesome.

People: I heard ... not to sound racist, but most of the people on campus are Rich White kids. ..... i know the majority is white (62%?). My friend goes to the school and she said the one thing bad about BC is that it's "Clichie" as in.... everyone's divided up into groups and somehow is separated.

Education: Ranking for BC is 40 and Rutgers is 60. (according to US News) I'm sure BC can provide a good education.

So hard to decide!! I'm going to BC again this weekend. ...it's for their "Eagles Admitted Day" Anyone else going?

ChibiChi, even though I am attending BC next fall and am a strong advocator for going to the school .. those money stats don't seem very good especially since you are also going to attend grad. school. If you are going to have THAT much debt when you graduate, I'm not sure if it is the best choice.

BC will provide a great education but I think Rutgers will as well. I mean it's not like you are choosing between BC and community college (no offense). Sometimes, we tend to be idealistic and forget to be realistic.

Goodluck in deciding!

yeah i agree. It's really the graduate degree that matters in the end anyway. But it'd be great to see you at BC next year! I'm going to the admitted students day this saturday! maybe i'll see you there. My name is Marisa (incase you didn't notice...haha)

for someone who lives 15 mins from Rutgers, also applied, also got into both it and BC, unless money is the deciding factor, choose BC. Rutgers is in all honestly a dismal place, and the city of New Brunswick is pretty much awful. Theres maybe a 3 block section that is nice, and I'm sure that's the image you may have of it since that's the area that gets the publicity, not the run down section that constitutes most of the city. When my baseball team plays there, we joke they we're worried about getting shot. Plus, academically its ok, but my HS, has tons of kids who go there, and while intelligent people, the people who got into or go to BC from my class and previous classes are at another level academically. So if that's any indication of what the student body is like at rutgers (also the STD capital of the world, so while you might get a lot of random play, it comes at a cost), choose BC. hope I was helpful

I am down to choosing between JHU and BC. I like BC a lot, but in the sciences it is definitely not JHU. Also, JHU doesnt have a core curriculum, so I wont have to take a lot of the liberal arts I would have to at BC. But still, this is a hard decision for me. I am actually leaning more towards BC, it has a great location in the immediate Boston suburbs, great D1 sports and school spirit, and good academics in a variety of areas. I still dont know what I am doing with my decision though

well first of all....congrats on getting into both schools. they're both great.

It's hard for me to be impartial since I will be attending bc next year. I absolutely love Boston and the great opportuinties the city presents. I have heard that there is more of a social life at bc than there is at jhu. However, the academics are superb at jhu and if you want to pursue science than maybe that is better. If you are pre-med Boston offers tons of great internship possibles. You'll definately get more school spirit at BC than you would at JHU. either way i'm sure you'll be happy! Good luck with your decision! (GO TO BC!) haha

Thanks

I'm not considering pre-med so thats not really a factor for me. The main thing I am thinking about is whether or not the strength of the sciences at JHU is enough to outweigh the fact that I definitely like BC more, and that Boston is a much better location than Baltimore. Hopefully I will be able to make a decision when I get back from JHU on Tuesday.

Congrats on getting into JHU! I know many many many well qualified people that got rejected. =)

thanks

Ive come to the conclusion that I have no idea how I got into JHU considering I got rejected from Duke and waitlisted from Cornell, UChicago, and Notre Dame

They must have seen something in you. =)
