Just curious, for the academic interests and why brown essay, did you come up iwt a creative story to explain your answer, or did you have more of a straightforward answer.

straightforward

Straightforward also. The "why Brown?" and the "who interested you?" were my only straightforward essays.

yeah, i don't think it's supposed to be a really in-depth thing. i mean, on the paper application they give you very few lines for these parts.

i kinda tried to be creative in the beginning, but I failed...haha
so it starts out to be kinda weird/creative?? and ends more straightforward...
and I don't even know what i'm saying.......

Two straightforward sentences. But then again, I'm rushing to get it done at the last minute...

did u guys type it or write it in the space provided and same w/ the personal statement?

I began my why brown with a story about my dad taking me to brown when I was little. (both true and playing the legacy. haha)

im a heartless bastard.

oh yea, i called up Brown and they said it was perfectly fine to just attach a separate sheet with it (just stay under a page).

for the why brown essay.

Ugh. Why does this essay have to be only 1500 characters? I want to write something cool and fun, but this restriction makes it pretty difficult. What would be an acceptable amount of characters to go over the limit? The one I would like to use would probably be about 2500 characters.

Guys, I think at this point I'm pretty much screwed. I assumed that I would be able to go above the limit, as you can with most schools. However, I put in my essay that I worked for countless hours on and it says, "Cannot exceed 1500 characters" and chops off a huge piece of my essay. Why does it count spaces as characters? Is there a way to get around this limit? I poured my heart into this essay, and now its going to be completely crippled. Can someone please help?

I don't think there's really anything we can do... you'll just have to make it shorter. This essay isn't supposed to be extremely long anyway... is there any way to put some of it into one of the other essays?

Or you could mail the application, but I'm guessing that's not possible anymore (unless you haven't submitted part 1)

No, I haven't sent in any of the application, but I don't have a paper copy either. I think I'm just going to redo it and make it straightforward.

if you don't have a paper copy, you can print one out from their website

meh, thats why i do paper for all apps.

I found a paper copy in my house (no idea why I had one) but the space is way too small to handwrite in.

Go online and print the paper copy out

I just got an idea. I have the paper copy; would I be able to print out my essay, and then tape/stable/whatever it to the application itself? Is that allowed?

^ Yes, of course. They don't require you to hand-write it on there, especially if it's obviously not going to fit. I used a glue stick to paste my essays onto the app, except for the ECs section since I had 3 pages. If you can fit the whole thing on there by just typing it & pasting it on there, then do that. If not, then just write see attached and attach a typed copy. That's all you have to do.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With some creative maneuvering and adjustments, I made my essays fit in the spaces provided, though my "Why Brown" was put in size 8 font, oh well. I have a couple of quick questions before I mail it out tomorrow (don't worry I'm getting DHL to pick it up, since everyone else is closed).

How do I put the whole app together? Do I staple it? Paper clip it? Nothing?

Does the above question qualify me as OCD?

Would it have been smarter to just print out the online app, and on a separate sheet of paper put my Why Brown essay?

A huge weight has been lifted knowing I finished my Brown application. Except now I get to work on my half-finished, half-assed Amherst essay; if I didn't love that school there would be no way that I would apply.
