It’s not a trick question. They want evidence that you know what you want, and that you’ve researched and thought about how Brown will help you further your objectives. So, you want to say: "My dream is to be a . So far, toward that goal I have done the following: . Brown will catapult me toward my goal because it has: _____(specific faculty, extracurricular organizations, specific concentrations – maybe ability to create your own, etc.)
They want to know that you have direction, that you’ve actually done something along those lines, and that Brown has specific attributes, facilities, people, atmosphere, etc. to allow you to further your goal. Obviously, you want to show a high degree of self-discipline and motivation.
It’s like the TV show “Shark Tank.” You’re asking Brown to invest in you; so you have to make a case that they will reap a reward – that you will be successful. Whatever it is you are or want to become is fair game. It doesn’t have to include wealth. Be anything, but be something. Brown will nurture and, at times coddle you; but it will not lead you by the hand. If you don’t already know what you want to be, in my opinion, Brown is not the right place.
