Why Brown?

Hey fellas,

First off, congrats to everyone who has gotten in so far or anyone who has even applied…i know its hard.

Anyways, I’ve been doing college research for months and I realized one of the schools I overlooked was Brown. So here’s the deal, Yale is my first choice (and we SCEA’ers find out on Wednesday) but of course there is, no matter how qualified I am, little chance of acceptance.

What I was wondering was why Brown? say, why Brown over Umich, in which im in state and its dirt cheap? or why Brown over Dartmouth or Penn? over HYPS? (those are the schools im applying to). All i’ve heard is that its pretty chill there (which is great), but what else do you guys love about it? I have a good feeling about this school and ive driven through providence, seems nice enough. Plus people keep nagging me to apply. All i know is that it might be worth it, but still another essay to do and 75 dollars is an investment.

Thanks in advance.

Before everyone else starts screaming at you to use the search function:

I would pick Brown over all of those places because (I think) it is a better combination of intellectually stimulating and happy than any of them. Yale’s a closer call, maybe (though I would still choose Brown); the rest are easy.

Dam i knew i did something wrong…

Thanks

anyways, I want opinions more than a laundry list, thats why i didn’t search per say, but still i am a newb, so yeah.

Open curriculum
Beautiful campus (some disagree, but it reminds me of my childhood)
Happy environment
Intellectual stimulation
Financial aid
Prestige
Fantastic Teachers
Others but those are my main reasons

Why Brown over the others? For me, it is the feeling that you are free to be whoever you want to be intellectually. Of course all of the Ivies are incredible, but at Brown there is no box. No HYP box and not as many stereotypes, IMO. The intellectual curiosity is contagious and immensely appealing and I am thrilled to explore different studies next year in the quest to find out who I am and what I want to do. The vibe is smart, quirky, interesting and cool. To me, the other Ivies felt very similar, while Brown stood out as very different.
