I'm looking for an actual "Why BU?" essay from an applicant that was accepted. I want to get a better picture of what BU is looking for. What are some tips as I write this essay? I know for it to stand out, it must be personal and unique. But I really want to make it stand out, maybe to put a twist into it...

I really just want to find an essay that worked and if you can help, that'd be lovely

They want to know why you like BU for reasons specific to BU (as opposed to aspects it shares with many other schools, like being in Boston, having a common major like biology or economics, etc.). It is so that you can show your “level of interest”.

If it must be “personal and unique”, what possible value would there be in seeing anyone else’s? Besides, just because someone got in to BU doesn’t mean their essay “worked” --a mediocre essay could easily be offset by other positives in an application. The internet isn’t going to provide any magic answers; you really just need to buckle down and do your best at your own “why BU” essay.

Go to the library. Good writing is good writing. And if you’re determined to use someone else’s ideas, you can certainly do better than what you’d find here on CC!
