Why Can't Penn Place its students into MIT/ Chicago's Economics PhD Program?

As a matter of fact, Bocconi University (Italy) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) are indeed among the best schools in the world for ** undergraduate economics **.

American students are just too insular to acknowledge the reputation of overseas colleges. On the other hand, PhD advisors who had students from those colleges in the past probably know better, and that’s why Princeton accepts graduates from the likes of Bocconi and PUC-Rio.
