I haven’t the slightest what you’re carrying on about. But I’m sure it’s very important.

What? Was that aimed at me?

As for myself, I live in an area where there simply aren’t that many minorities in the circles I am a part of. Where I used to live, I had friends from several different races.
When I’m outside of my home area, like at summer camp for example, I get along with other races just fine. They’re about as well represented amoung my friends as they are in the population at large, I guess.

My group of friends is very, very diverse actually–especially coming from a person like me who’s lived & grown up in Dubai for almost my entire life it’s a very cosmopolitan city . Most of them are either middle eastern, brown people, muslim african and some filipinos & vietnamese/hmongs.

I’ve never had any white friends though :/

It just easier for me to make friends with people that have a similar background to me…

^ Agreed. My background is Christian and homeschooled. Where I used to live that definition included a lot more racial minorities than it does here.

^exactly! same here! it’s so easy for me to make friends with any muslim, arabic speaking person or somali…it’s just easier to get along and you have more stuff in common so yeah…

My best friends are Haitian, Chinese, Peruvian, Nigerian, and Irish - and they’re all immigrants. To be honest, I think that is one of the reasons we are such good friends: we’ve all had the experience of being a foreigner in a strange land.

I went to a school with a 50% white population, but the white population separated among lines of ethnicity (i.e. 35% Italian, 20% Irish, 5% everyone else [Serbian, Ukranian, etc.]).

All of my friends must understand the importance of silence to my daily routine. I talk more with strangers than my friends; my talkativeness is a measure of how uncomfortable I am feeling.

My bestfriends are Iranian,Indian & Filipino! :D

This!!!

Could that be why I don’t have any white friends…?
If I had to generalize my group of friends it would definitely belong in the foriegner/expatriate/immigrant category.

When I moved here to MN in the 9th grade to start HS from Dubai I had to put in A LOT of effort to make new friends…especially since i went to majority white school. I had a very hard time fitting in :/

^ Where I used to live, “immigrant” meant mainly Brazilian, Polish, or Cuban. All of whom were considered white.

^Well, perhaps things are a bit different in the area of Minnesota where eastafrobeauty lives. Though I’ve only looked into this briefly, the percentage of European immigrants settling out in MN is less than you’d get in, say, the New York metro area, which is where I live, which would explain why she didn’t run into many of them.

expats ftw [except i guess canada isn’t too different from the us haha]. I absolutely hated it though, for various reasons. I’m really quite glad my dad’s going to houston now, as it’s not too far from home, and much more similar [not quite though].
